The person that serve me is call "Ser". He is good too!

Hi,

wonder anyone had encountered the following problem??... getting abit pissed off...

i had gotten a grey set Sigma 150mm(with international warranty) bout 2 months back.... lens was fine when i gotten it.... only started using it after about 1 week.... then realised there's some problem with the AF motor...it makes funny noises as compared to my friend's copy.... since its after a week... i decided to sent it in to Sigma Service Center for repair....
the next day they called me up saying they could not retify the problem and had to ship it baq to Japan for the repairs.... i had not much of a choice but to wait... the wait was 3 weeks when they called to tell me the lens is back BUT Japan side said it met factory standard and nothing is done to the lens.... never mind i took it back and thought probably my body mount and the lens had some compatibility issue thus resulting in the noises... 2nd outing with the lens after that the whole AF motor "died"!!!.... the lens juz cannot auto focus.... i brought it back last week.... and asked the counter lady whether can i top up extras to change it to a new copy(local set) as i have had enough of it already.... she say she would check with her boss and get baq to me the next day.... i waited till yesterday(5 working days!!!) still no reply so i called baq Sigma Singapore to enquire.... she claims her boss busy and i was shocked when she told me "no" when i asked "so is my lens currently undergoing repair???".... she says she will contact me again the next day (which is today), but no call from her....

i am very frustrated yet dunno wat i can do now.... the lady was very nice the first time i sent in my lens... need some advices, anyone encountered such problems??... grey set owners treated as "second" class at Sigma??... 2 months of ownership.... but the lens only with me less than 2 weeks and used 3 times nia... :(

not uncommon... grey set are not capture in the local sales figure so they treat unit bought locally better. that is the reason they are cheaper. local distributor do not get any $$$ pocket...since no $$$ in their pocket not only the boss not happy, the staff also not happy. got to do work but not extra $$ in pocket... this is the risk we have to bear when buying grey set !!:(

How long is the warranty period for local Sigma lenses?

If you ask me, Ser, the senior tech there provides ABSOLUTELY fantastic service. I personally vouch for him, and the many extra miles he went to help me with my lens the 1 time i sent it for repair.

As for grey sets, I disagree about being treated as 2nd class citizens. I know for sure they were VERY nice and fixed my grey set of flash VERY fast. They even replaced some of the problem components for me FOC (yellowing flash diffuser panel, etc).

Sigma service center open on saturday?? do they service lens bought from oversea less then 1 yr old?? My 30MM f1.4 got a slight front forcusing problem

Totally flabbergasted when bought a lens for repair there, technician jump out almost immediately and ask to check my camera, I reply this is unusual and ask him did you check the lens first before asking to check my camera, his reply was that usually problem lies with the camera  luckily he not a Dotor or he be bandaging your foot when your hand hurt :bsmilie:

Just got my 18-50mm repaired a few weeks ago. Although I had to pay $120 for it which took exactly 1 week to repair, the lens was totally cleaned and I even suspect the service centre did a firmware update as the lens now focuses much better.
the staff are also nice and polite.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I just sent a lens in for calibration as it had front-focusing problem, and the staff there were friendly and helpful. I did not get the name of the technician, but as I was testing the lens after calibration, he came out and talked to be about it, show me the shots he took before and after calibration, etc. He was very helpful, and assured me that most people who send in the lens for calibration need not come back, but if I had any problems with the lens, just send it in again. :D

since we are on this topic....do u guys send in the warranty on the local sets u bought or just bring the card and receipt along?

Just bring the card along with your receipt of purchase if you still have it.

The staff there are generally very nice, just make sure you call before dropping in. As they tech may not have time to entertain you if the schedule is packed as he explained to me the last time I sent in my lens for calibration. Also, its a more pleasant experience if they have the time to work on your stuff directly on the spot.

hmm, anyone knows how much they charge for calibration for lens out of warranty?

thats why i hate using or afraid to own sigma lens in sg...their company in sg is like some third party holding it..It shares with rocoh etc...not like nikon or canon Service centre where it is dedicated...They have to send back to japan always, as hey always claim...and i hate it..come back like no difference ..
