Hi Minoltians...

I use d5D kit + 5600 flash to shoot apparels indoors quite often & I noticed that the shades of RED / PINK kinda almost always go haywire for me... Tried experimenting with different WB (AWB, Shade, Fluorescent, Kelvin...) & also with / without Omnibounce as well as different ways of bouncing light but somehow I juz can't get the same kind of RED as wat I see in actual with my eyes (the PINK becomes RED in the photo). & the strange thing is it doesn't really happen to other colours (sometimes got prob with YELLOW as well but not as frequent)...

Wonder if other 5D / 7D users oso face the same problem too & if so, how do u go abt tackling it??? I shoot in jpg & AWB most of the time.

use custom WB or....... the best shoot RAW.

I notice that the 5D/7D tend to blow the reds quite easily... need a little post processing although I usually dun bother... cos the colour is quite nice and if u dun have the original to compare, who knows if u blew the red channel?!

Anyway if u must have accurate colours, then do as zcf said, custom white balance on the red with the flash that u intend to use (either on board or exteral flash gun).

Do custom WB on the red with flash?? But will that cause inaccuracy in other colours? Dun think I'll shoot in RAW cos dun hv time to do all the editing... So I guess it's a prob on the cam's software rather than metering or wat...

U have 3 slots for custom WB what! So just save one for the red channel and then go back to whatever u balanced for the whole scene or switch back to AWB lor...

KM5D only got one memory for custom WB

Oh dear... then upgrade to a 7D lor...

i just did a street soccer shoot last weekend, the photos of the people in red jerseys came out exactly as i saw them, and in the lcd, and on screen. i use a 5600hsd with my 5d. could be your lens, or your colour setting. i use natural+ (the option next to natural - can't remember what's it called offhand)

I guess ur street soccer shoot is outdoors??
I'm referring to indoor shoot, I use kit lens, AWB, Natural, F8 1/60 mainly...
5600 flash with or w/o stofen omnibounce, bouncing off white ceiling or direct flash...

Red will look somewhat orangey (but still acceptable), the Yellow will look a tat peachy while the Pink gives the biggest problem... it'll almost always turn red or orangey-red... However, I wld be able to get a similar shade of pink fr wat I see by switching to Fluorescent WB (at 0) but then everything else will have a bluish tinge... :dunno:

Dun really hv much issues with other colours like green or blue thou...

Not really. It's normal white fluorescent lights most of the time...

Huh? U mean different lens will produce different colours???

It should not, although diff lenses have diff coating (or not) and number of lens elements. These can have an effect on your results. All I’m suggesting is that you check with a different lens to eliminate the possibilities.
