i put 9 passport photo in one 4R image and all the shop that i visit quote me $9 instead of 50 cents because they say i have multiple images in one image.
Is it always like that? Any shop charge lower price?

you have to read their rules and regulations...some labs don't allow that.

i'm not sure if KT allows it, but if you tell them that you're a CS member, they may allow. I printed 10 identification tags on a sheet of S8R at the price of a one S8R few months ago

alternatively, try printing at home

i dont have a printer at home
what is KT btw?

chinatown. check out "Services Offered/Wanted" for the thread on KT

Ripoff.....

Haven't tried printing passport photos on a 4R, but I've put 2 pictures onto the same file, to printed on 3R, so that I can cut into 2 wallet sizes.

I was charged the price of 1 3R photo, and the lady even offered to help me cut into 2!

Had ever cropped 3 pano photos into an 8 x 12 dimension for print, no problem.

After printing the lab lady even said "wah you know how to save $$$...3 in 1, you need me need to cut out the pano for you?"

No it should not be the case, esp. if you've done all the formating YOURSELF and made it into 1 file. Its no different from printing any other 4R image.

Of course, if you're giving them 1 photo and asking them to resize, copy and format for you, its a different thing entirely. Even though everything fits onto one 4R sheet, you're giving them extra work since they can't just open --> print.

I suspect you're asking them to do the latter... which is why they're charging you for it.
But if you're not, it shouldn't be an issue.

Worse case you can print it yourself at those DIY kiosks. Machines can't tell!

I mean "worst" case.

actually i've done all the formating in photoshop (resizing and stuff)
so i just give them 1 jpeg file

i've just send back VN to print (coz got a friend went back shortly)
after print and cut out, i got 40 copies at 3 SGD.

I used the Kodak machine to print out 8 passport photos on a 4R,only 50cents.
Think the auntie didn't see what i printed so she didn't make any noise.

I think if you use the self-service machine, you won't experience the unhappy owner situation who wants to charge you more.
Plus if they want you to pay more even if you printed from the machine, tell them they stated "50cents per print".

well i can print for u using canon selphy 510 printer. results is v good n i use it for my colleagues also, provided u stay near upper paya lebar or bishan

This is ridiculous!

Go to KT!

Well, I just use my Canon AIO printer to print them.

Today i happened to be in bukit merah central and was looking for a photoshop to print 1 4R picture. (2 images in 1 4R size). The shoplady told me it will cost $1.20. (She pointed to a reference booklet that shows all different combinations of images in 1 4R and the $$).
Note: I did all my formatting etc. just need a medium to print out the pictures.

The prices in that booklet are as follows: 8 passport photos in 1 4R costs $8. 2 pictures in 1 4R costs $1.20. 3 pictures cost $3.. etc.. (i think 1 image costs $1 although all of them are in 4R size).

This is totally unacceptable from my point of view. She just told me its to protect their ricebowl which i personally think is quite a lame excuse (and the best part is she told me everywhere is the same). I walked out of her shop and went to another shop which is just 2 units away.. and i got my 2 images in 1 4R for $0.50.

In the evening, i went to Thomson plaza and saw another photoshop. Went in to take a look and there was also the same type of booklet that states all the different prices in 1 4R. Same as the first shop in Bukit Merah. I noted that both the shops are using kodak instant print.. Makes me wonder if there are some conspiracy between the shops using kodak printer... hmm...

No need to think liao, go for FotoHub - no such problems.

I've printed passport photos there and even borrowed their passport photo cutter to cut myself. Now how's that for value add :)

This is carp, we do the work they charges us for it. The lab I go to only charge what they print no such nonsenes. You can try them if you like. The lab is at SPC (Singapore Post Centre).

Well from our point of view its unreasonable no doubt
but try looking from their commercial point of view, in the good old film days without digital cameras/DSLR or compacts, no DI, they made a good living from $6 for 4 passport pics, developing our negatives etc.. nowadays with digital, folks print less often, competition has risen so some offering 4R prints at like 18cents each, professionals having other options like their own printer etc.. They are really pretty desperate safeguarding their rice bowl. I wouldnt want to reach a stage that photolab become rare, because when that happens, price will start going up again. :)

BTW i also print 8 passport pics at 50cents;)
