Got it! got my 50mm F1.8D from Lord's. ALL places sold out. Lord's got two, bought one, left one. SGD175 + Nikon NC filter SGD35 = 210.

Ok, now u prepare a purchase plan, and aim for the other primes, let me suggest:
20mm for wide angle
35mm for walk around
85mm for portrait
180mm for tele
60mm micro
105mm micro
16mm fisheye
......

I was thinking of getting the AF-S 300mm F4. Not sure how much is it? And I heard that probably Nikon will come out a VR this year. Is it?

im considering afs300/4 oso, it sure seems nice for its price. i dont think VR will help much since i'll most likely use it on a tripod.

i hav only 1 concern though. according to kenrockwell dot com, a 300/4 requires a front element of at least 75mm but the afs300/4 has a 77mm filter thread. either: its not really 300mm, its f4.5 instead of f4 or it'll hav severe vignetting. should i decide to get it, i'll definitely try out carefully at the shop 1st

77mm is already more than 75mm. The diameter of the front element is already up to the filter size. Since the angle of coverage is very narrow, there is no concern of vignetting.

:what: Already bought the 300mm f4 together with TC20EII

600/8... good luck trying to use it under less than sunny weather.

For the 85mm,
which one is prefer/ practical to use on traveling as not much ppl will like to lug a 70-200 F2.8 in shoulder bag... 1.8 or 1.4 (not comparing bokeh)?

More practical would be the 1.8 lar. Not only lighter, and much cheaper. Loss or dropped also not that heart ache. :bsmilie:

Quite true...
Though my heart is going towards 1.4 but i think that i'm not going to use much on 100% portraits instead of "landscape". which makes me pounder for sometime, will get 1 before going for overseas.

You have an excellent range, are you using digital? Coz these are really great film lenses.:)

Zoom = Convenience

Prime = Euphoria! :)

My fav: 105mm & 85mm AI

I've :
Sigma 30mm f/1.4
Nikkor :
60mm f/2.8
85mm f/1.8
105mm f/2.8 VR

NO difference in shaprness or pic quality to me!

Primes lens. I have 50/1.4 35/2
I use them when I want the nice shallow dof.

Stick to zoom 24-70/2.8 when I need the versatility

Hi guys,

Wondering who still shoots prime lenses nowadays?? (Mainly i should say)

I'm a huge fan of 85 1.4. Can't do without it! Still sourcing for my 28 2.8!! Who wanna let go? Haha...

So what is your fav??

:)

Most of the time zooms for me.

I use primes for
- tilts / shift since they only come in prime flavors
- funky DC
- shallow dof / dim light
- macro stuffs
- FE

Ryan
