Prime Lens

That may depend on exchange rates or where you are located.

In the UK, about £135.00 . . USA (exchange rate equivalent = £99.00) on Amzon.com (figure that . . . 25% difference). Makes the used Minolta 50mm f/.7 prices look expensive unless you need a FF lens.

Likely we poor saps in the UK will be shafted by Her Majesty's Government in the form of over inflated prices and 15% VAT. Nothing new there, but for a land mass the size of Florida, it seems 'we' are trying to right the entire globe of polution and other rubbish by being taxed to the hilt, and Gordon Brown wants 'us' to feel good about it.

Sorry . . . going off on a tangent . . . Ranting . . . . :hammer:

It's expensive living there, no doubt... but you're paying for all the wonderful history and countryside you live in... hahaha...

Sorry to "hijack" and "revive" this old thread...

To cut things short, I have a 50mm f1.8, and I love it. But I find it being too "long" for day to day shots on my A300.

I also like the very fast speeds in low light conditions of the 50mm f1.8. So my question is, is the 28mm f2.8, Sony or Minolta version, a "shorter" version of the 50mm f1.8??

I intend to use it as a day to day lens, with the 50mm for portraits exclusively.

Any ideas?

TIA!

The 28mm lens will definitely give you a wider perspective as compared to the 50mm.

Why not just use your kit lens as a everyday lens?

I'm quite a novice user..and honestly I'm spoilt for the speed of the 50mm f18 in low light conditions (I do not like flash)

The 1870 kit doesnt seem to perform very well under low light. Or maybe i'm not using it to its full potential yet.

Thanks for the reply :D

Sigma 30mm or Minolta 28mm... the closest to 50mm would be to buy a 24mm prime. This one is quite expensive...

Is better to learn how to properly use flash for your picture. On one of my recent photoshoot, after some "guidance" from a pro, I was stunned by the result.

Err... I thought Sony don't have 24mm?? It has 20mm F2.8 and 28mm F2.8, but missing the 24mm F2.8.

I have seen someone selling the 24mm F2.8 in B&S, and yes, is quite expensive for this old lens.

I was referring to the Minolta primes... not the SONY primes... I think the Minolta primes 2nd hand are good value considering that the SONY prime lens prices are quite crazy...

Agree with you bro. Minolta primes have good value.
