Prime Camera - Leica Lens CLA

Hi,

Anybody here have experiences in sending your Leica lenses to Prime Camera at Peninsular besides Cathay Photo for CLA? Are they reliable?

Thanks

The charge is reasonable. The skill of the repairman whom they send the lens to is so-so. My take: it's ok if your lens has minor issues or is less than 1k. Else, too risky to send in (to any third party repairman in SG I would say... old, unfriendly; young, v friendly, all CMI)

Ya cant say he did a gd job but he got it fixed for mi with a rather fast turn around timing..

Thanks for all the feedback. Yeah i went to him because turn around time seems fast. Haha, should have asked first... Any idea how much Leica charges for a CLA? Or does it depends on which lens is it?

I tend to use Phillip Tay for all my repairs because (i) he personally does the work; and (ii) he will be there to answer for his work, good or bad. I know there are mixed reviews about him, but from past dealings I am very satisfied with his work. I call him "Master Tay" and he treats me very very well haha.

I tend to avoid shops who outsource the repair work, because (i) you do not know who actually does the repairs; and (ii) if problems arise, the repairman to whom the work was outsourced may or may not be there to answer for what he did.

I actually have not tried Leica since they started a service centre in Singapore. I always had the impression that if you send your gear to Leica, they will send it back to Solms and you will have a long wait. I think this may have changed now that Leica operations in Singapore have expanded. Maybe some bros can share your experiences here. It will certainly be interesting to know Leica's charges and the scope of their services in Singapore.

Hey Zhiliang,

Not sure about Prime, my only CLA experience is sending my Mamiya C330F and Sekor 80mm f2.8 lens to Camera Hospital. Turn around time was pretty fast but it seems like nuthing much was done to my camera and lens. The only obvious thing that I noticed was the light seal replacement. Nuthing fantastic just decent. You might wanna pop by Camera Hospital if you want to.
