Some items are sold such as Leica mP-240 at $43xx and sold within the day. What this does is this creates an anchor price in the buyers' mind and buyers expect sellers to all sell that ridiculously low prices.

In the past, CS allows buyers to reply to the thread. Since then, this has changed and CS only allows seller to update sellers' thread.

By doing this, CS may have allowed scammers who sell too good to be true prices and allow Buyers who pose as sellers to sell items at super cheap prices to depress market prices.

What do members think?

It happens for sure, but the impact is definitely limited.

After all, it's a free market, if you as a seller do not succumb to such pressure, and keep to the price you want to sell at.. Then what's the problem?

What if it is not a genuine sale but made to create an impression that it is a sale? The seller could well be a buyer depressing prices.

The thing is, how will being able to reply to the thread help in revealing such issues?

That's a very huge what if isn't it? The bottom line is, can you prove it? To pose the question back to you, what if it's a genuine sale and the seller could well be a genuine seller? :)

If you have reason to believe that there are buyers/scammers posing as sellers posting 'fake' sales to depress prices, please feel free to report these threads with your concerns. I'm sure the mods and admins will take action if there' sufficient evidence. Unless one has evidence to prove it was a fake sale so that the mods and admins can take action, it's just an empty conspiracy theory at this point.

I get your concern, but this is not unique to CS, and doesn't seem like something you can stop or prevent. Even on ebay, what's to stop a seller from creating another account to 'buy' from themselves? Once in awhile, you'll definitely see the odd item that goes below the usual market rate. This happens on all the different platforms. The thing is, unless you have evidence to prove it, there's as much chance of it being genuine as much as it has of being fake. Some people want to sell fast, while others are willing to wait for a better price. In an open market, that's what happens. You can't prevent people from selling low if they want a quick sale.

On the flip side, if there's no evidence, we may really have to accept that it could have been a genuine sale? Any buyer who tries to use these exceptions to bargain you down are clearly lowballers looking for an excuse, you can quite easily point out that it was one out of X sales that sold at that price. It's an exceptional case, it doesn't set the market price at all. Or better yet, just ignore their nonsense and hold fast for a buyer who will meet your price.
