have you try Peninsular shopping center or plaza? You might able to find some 2nd hand minolta lenses there.

Sigh I went ahead to buy the 24-105 from The Camera Workshop at Peninsula.. it looked as good as new, so I thought ok, I will save the $100+. But should have bargained more.. damn!
So you use Dynax 7? How do you like it? I am considering between it and the Dynax 5. I like the Dynax 7 for its 24mm flash coverage and better eye-relief and ability to forward roll to any frame you want, apart from that, I don't think there's any extra function that the Dynax 7 has over the Dynax 5, to justify the much higher cost and quite a bit heavier too. But of course, the black colour is cool... and I don't like the pop-up flash of the Dynax 5.
I'm not a serious photographer, just for travels etc.

-Hmm.. the ability to scold Andrew Lum chao LCP and give push-ups means it's one of the old corporals from my batch. And with a nickname of Java Guru, that would point to either Andrew Teng or Lionel Siau or Gabriel. Andrew is not in Singapore, Gabriel has been MIA for ages, so my guess is that it's Lionel?

Hey I see u have both the Tamron 28-200 XR and the Canon 28-105.. er a bit redundant? I was quite attracted to the Tamron too.. glorious range plus very small and lightweight in its latest rendition! But I feared the optical compromises plus light flare from such a zoom range, so decided to go for 24-105 Minolta. How does the Tamron perform in your assessment?
I am still staying with film photography for now, although I did buy a Canon Ixus 400 just for fun and pocket shots. Reckon that would satisfy me until digital SLR becomes more mature and to my liking (and cheaper). I have concerns about 1) limited body options 2) lack of wide angle lens 3) sensor dust 4) not as able to give shallow depth of field compared to film cameras.

When I can only carry one lense esp during travel, it is usu the Tamron 28-200. For 4R - 8Rs it does nicely without any issues.
The 28-105 is the classic lens. I use it for comparison shooting. Also my indoor lens together with a 16-35.
1. Limited bodies is true. But frankly Nikon or Canon is sufficient. They make the most lenses with the biggest ranges. Also, second hand market easy to find lenses.
2. Lack of WA. Very true...sigh.
3. Sensor dust. Not an issue. Your lens changing technique is just as important. U can also DIY cleaning the sensor.
4. shallow DOF. I don't understand, DOF is a function of F-stop and focal length. Nothing to do with a DSLR.

Given the same f-stop and focal length, a dslr will still give more depth of field compared to a 35mm film camera, because its sensor size is smaller, not full frame equivalent. So a 35mm film camera can still produce more blurred out background effect. But of course digital advantage is numerous too, you get great telephoto range (1.6x equivalent, I believe), you get to post process with Adobe Photoshop, adjust levels, remove red eye, etc, and you save on film processing as well as remove junk pictures.

I am not free tomorrow.. although a gathering with you, Lionel, Jeffrey, Chia Vi and all the other guys sound good! What lens you using for Minolta system? Try out the 100-300 APO lens, it's light-weight (435 gm) and the optical quality is very good!
