i'm wondering whether are there any performance differences between running Premiere Pro 5.5 on a mac and windows; with both system running with the same specs...

anyone using both platforms?

Thanks.. : )

im not sure with Mac, but currently im using windows 7 64 bit i7 2600K core and memory 16gb ,im pretty much satisfied with this engine in term of performance wise

Premiere should work well on both, but a Mac system with the same specs as a windows one will be at least 30% more expensive.

So, conclusion, price as a factor, windows would perform better.

anyone tried assembling a hackintosh? :)

Premiere will work 5x faster on a PC with Nvidia Quadro and Adobe's Mercury Engine. Don't ever try Quadro+mac combo. Plenty of compatibility problems.

Yes ... That is correct ... But i heard its 2-3x faster overall ... 5x maybe only on the rendering?

wah.. any reference URL that we may refer to?

why hackintosh or mac, when pc can give you the best optimum performances for graphic and video works. btw it's abt $2k to $3k for the Nvidia Quadro 5000 or 6000 card alone. nvidia quadro

have been using mac since 8 years ago.. only thing is mac is rather expensive.. hackintosh seems to work best for me.. can assemble a computer similar to mac pro specs for half the price...

im fine with PC, just that have some nasty experience with windows.. mac seems to work better (personal opinion)

btw, i doubt i'll be buying a graphic card that cost 2k... whooping 2k! heheh

I still think if you your work is serious professional videography. Hackintosh isn't the correct route to go ...
It cannot be as stable as a real mac + updates can be slightly dangerous depending on what programs you use. I seen ppl crash their hackintosh while updating to lion.

That can be seriously dangerous if you are editing day in day out ...

+ If you are doing good editing, mac pro's price is easily paid off over and over again a few hundred times.

Of course, if for hobby only, its not an issue.

im still in the process of exploring hackintosh.. if its stable, i'll probably can use it to edit...
if it doesnt.. will just install windows and work with it.. im fine with both OS.. just that prefer mac's keyboard shortcuts, interface and every other thing.. hehehe
wonder can window's keyboard be config to mac's? eg, cmd+Q = quit applications?

Haha ... Force Quit on Mac is different but the thing is, you would not use that function as often as windows for sure.

hahhaa.. probably on windows... i'll press ctrl+alt+delete more.. hehehe

Obviously you are not a season mac user, hold on to your Option key and right click on the application icon. It's much faster than CTRL-ALT-DEL, select the Application tab and find the application. :) I suppose if you just refer to clicking on the Apple icon, and slowly find the Force Quit menu item, it's obviously slower :)

There again, I often use "kill" and "pkill" command. Trust me, I'm pretty fast at it :bsmilie:

What's the difference between abruptly killing processes or threads in both platforms ? Effectively they boils down pretty much similar. :) In fact, you will appreciate more than you kill a process on *nix system, much more reliable, and almost nearly effective.
