I think we should have a new thread on what films you guys like to use. I'm pretty new to film and bought myself a kodak portra 160vc after a few tries with beginner levels fujifilm superia. Have any of you guys used this before? Is it any good?

ive not used kodak portra but ive heard its very good.. comes in two versions, NC and VC..and i read some comments saying that VC is bit over saturated.. not used so i cant comment.. but its a good film, give it a shot n see how it works for u

ive used fuji superia x-tra and i really liked the results.. other color film i want to try out is kodak portra and ektar, and fuji reala

we are hanging out in the dark room section... you can also join us there... though we tend to talk about b&w ...hahaha...my fav changes, currently it is neopan 400 and acros 100. I buy the oem version.

Portra VC is my fav! I dunoe how to explain. but the results was awesome! hahhaha.... go google about it!

For color, I like Portra VC 400 and Fuji Pro 160NS; for B&W Kodak TriX. But I think you can shoot different types and decide for yourself. The effects they have are different.

I started to use film about 1.5 months ago. I am still trying out different films. I tried portra 160(the new one), gold 200, superia 200, ektar 100, colorplus 200, superia xtra 400, ultra max 400. So far, I love ektar 100, it is very fine, color is nice too. But it is only 100, consider as slow speed film, I prefer the superia 400 for daily usage. Ultra max 400 have much more grain than superia 400 I think. I haven't tested out color reversal and bw film yet. The velvia series should be great but they are expensive.

i just got a roll of kodak ektar today, a bit pricey over here.. around USD7, but im hoping its worth it :D im mainly planning on shooting b/w, but i wanna try out a few rolls of color too, just to find my personal preference. ive tried superia x-tra n i really like it. next up, im gonna try out the ektar that i got, n check out fuji reala. the store today had only a batch expired 4 months back. i thought i'd wait - is it discontinued? and i also wanna try out portra vc/nc

porta vc/nc are discontinued. replaced by new portra. if you want to try it, better buy now before it's gone.

I've been searching high and low locally for the new portra 800... anyone can help?

oh i see. well i'll look out for some if i can find some.. how does the new portra compare?

btw, i also noticed that some online stores like the lomography store, sells agfa APX film.. if im not mistake, this is discontinued, right? is it still the old stock selling? coz their APX 100 is sold as expired film, and the APX400 isnt expired (or vice versa) i wouldve thought that if it was the old stock of discontinued film, it'd all be expired?

I've got a few extra portra 400 to let go if anyone is interested

Yes, Portra 400 replaced the VC and NC versions. Tried 2 rolls recently, very fine grained for a 400 film and the skin tones and colors in general are natural and nice. The only color negative film I would use now.

But i don't use a lot of color negatives, mainly B&W. TMax400 is fine grained and contrasty, my favorite but difficult to print if exposure is not right. TriX is more forgiving but lack the punch of TMax400, and lazy me uses more TriX nowadays. These are the only 2 B&W films I use, maybe 4 to 8 rolls of them a month.

Oh, I'm talking about 35mm film.

I've got 5 rolls fresh in 120 format, PM me if you interested... ;)

Thanks for the heads up bro... I'm after 135 though!

i just got a couple rolls of fuji superia reala 100. is this film discontinued too? im getting a bit confused over which films are current or not. taking the two major brands, kodak and fuji, wat are the currently produced pro grade color negative films from these two?
kodak portra, ektar
fuji superia x-tra, superia reala (?)

and b/w negatives?
kodak tri-x, tmax, plus-x (?)
fuji neopan acros - the other neopans are discontinued, right?

anything else?
