Just waiting for D2/S3Pro or whatever to come out and force a price drop. Been checking out both sides, now at 30:70 Canon:Nikon. It's definitely S2Pro for me if I'm headed for Nikon camp coz of the more pleasing out of camera colours and the supposed better TTL flash. Tried out a friend's D1X last week...not impressed.

Something like that. If you are willing to live with them, your reward is the great images.

Similar to the 602's interface. Kinda used to its quirkiness so no complaints for now.
Agree about this limitation, might have to switch to autoflash mode above this.
Yeap..wonder why this is so when the 602 can do 1/3 EV increments.
Supposedly can do without the CR123, if you forsake the internal flash.
Verticle release not a serious issue.
One thing I've noted is that the colour balance on Fuji cams is extremely pleasing although having a warm tendency. This is especially so in mixed lighting. Also, the quirky D-TTL on the D1x kinda put me off....I din't expect TTL to have such unpredictable results compared to my usual manual/auto flash compensation.
Perhaps my opinions may change when I manage to borrow someone's S2Pro for a shoot.

Agree. That's the reason why I don't use pre/post view. I manually press the play button after the shots are saved to view them.

Histogram is not that bad. But what is lacking is the highlight of the areas that are over/underexposed.

Not a big deal, as you can do away with the CR123 and use the AA batteries alone.
6. No vertical release, even if you want to pay $$$ for it.
Again not a big deal to me. I'm used to shooting without vertical grip. But that's me.
7. Slow RAW file decoding
I seldom use raw so this is not a big problem for me.
And I want to add more:
8. This is my biggest gripe about the S2: the zoom and pan function is really a pain in the ass. You press the play, and then the 4-way pad to zoom in/out. Then you need to press the play button again to switch to pan mode *when the pic is in zoom mode*, and use back the same 4-way pad to pan. If you forgot to press the button to switch to pan mode, pressing the pad left/right will load the next pic. And what makes it worse: pressing the play button when you are *not in zoom mode* will switch off pic review! (happens to me all the time, @#$%^&). So you need to always check the screen to see what damn mode you are in. How it should be: use the 4-way pad to pan, and use one dial to zoom, and the other dial to move between pics.
I think Fuji should do away with the dual system concept where the camera electronics and DSLR electronics are seperated. They should take hint from Kodak and design the cemera from the ground up.
Other then that, I'm happy with the S2, especially the great images it can produce.

It is so due to the "dual system" design that Fuji adopted, meaning, they get the body and the camera electronics from Nikon, and without modifying them, interface the DSLR portion of the electronics to it. And because of this, the ISO setting is handled by the camera and set by the knob, the compensation is 1/2 EV (F80's "feature"), and you have a dual batteries system. That's also the reason why the front/back dials next to the shutter release are not used for pic advancement/zoom when in review mode.

Strange... but my 10D says it's 'Made in Japan'. :what:

I have checked everywhere on the camera. It said 'Made in Japan' on the Serial No. faceplate on the bottom of the camera. Unless you mean take apart the camera and look inside!Originally posted by Avatar

Seriously, I think you shouldn't bother, Japan or China doesn't matter as long as it works properly. Enjoy your new toy instead.
Any idea when the Nikon entry level digital slr will come out, or whether it's purely rumour?
