with the same amount of money my friend got 450D + 17-40L + 70-200 f2.8 L non IS and I got A350 + 16-80CZ + 70-300G + S 50-150 f2.8 (+ inbuilt IS)
I think I got more than him (quality... not only quantity) ;p ...

get a Canon EOS 7D solve all your problem but maybe $$$ is the problem here :)

I assume you are comparing EOS 500D and A550 :) I was in the same shoe as you, in the end i get neither although i like the A550 very much. I got the A330 instead because $$$ is a problem.

If you do not want your friend to go "huh? you buy Sony?" then buy the 500D. If i were to choose again and i have 1.2k to spare, i may go for 500D, i know this is a Sony forum so dun flame me hahaha.............i prefer HD Video :) i was sad Sony does not have it but i was happy that A330 is priced so reasonable.

Let's not narrow this down to a one brand against another thing. There are many entry level DSLRs offering video capability(Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic etc) but only one has 7fps shutter speed and it is only $100 more than your A330 kit. It is better to keep this as a one function vs another function decision.

I don't think anyone should stand out and say he/she represents all the people who would rather have video than 7fps shutter speed and Canon 500d is the ultimate choice. Canon 500d is a nice camera and I am still tempted by its small cute outlook. But this time round a550/500 really has an upper hand in terms of iso quality at similar price. If I were to choose based on image quality alone a500/550 wins. However this is about one function against another. If you prefer video, there are DSLRs with both video and better image quality out there. They just cost more and probably not belong to the entry level we are discussing now.

Hm... sorry I think I missed the a330 price adjustment notice. It is much cheaper now than the last time I checked it. So you get what you pay for. Anyway A500 is priced quite close to other comparable models.

Oh.. sorry again. I don't think there is any. Even for A550 the 7fps is only offered in hi-speed mode and exposure setting is fixed at the first frame.

7fps/high shutter speed used to be one of the things people pay extra for. Most dSLR makers offer it on cameras targeted at pro shooters.

Guess only the A550 and 7D in APC-S range has 7FPS. Don't see others with 7FPS. 7D is nice :P

Yes 7D is nice, it has most of what I want Sony to give us. Now we just have to wait for Sony's replacement for A700.
