Here is one observation to share after using the A1.
Yes, the camera is now smaller in size as the Battery compartment (7 series)for the AA batteries is now removed - as the A1 now uses the lithium-Ion Battery housed at the grip.
BUT!! Due to this down size, the Flower-Hood when installed will not allow the camera to sit on its own flat on the table. The lens block will be resting on the bottom of the hood... However, if the vertical grip is used, this problem is not experienced.
This will risk scratching the hood or even stress the lens block (and who knows may effect the lens block) especially if you have a 5600Hs or 3600HS on board.
Just be caution.......
One tip to work around this problem is to leave your quick release shoe of your tripod on...so as to act as a "feet" for the camera to stand on...
