Hi, please bear with this 菜鸟 (Vege Bird) for a while.
There is this increasing issue of people posting their scan with the border cropped and asking about issues with their film processing, film or scan.
Firstly, let me tell you that most likely you will get a reply call "Please check your negative on a lightbox with a loupe." Why is that so?
1. Your scan doesn't not really tell people if the issue is on your negative or your scanner?
2. If you crop off the border, people will not know if the developing is working properly or not? The border and wording on the border tells a lot.
3. Your scanning program might have applied some color correction, artifact removal (Digital ICE) and many other editing. Scan from labs mostly applied sharpening, color correction as well as contrast, exposure and brightness adjustment.
So you replied that you have no lightbox and loupe, you cannot afford a loupe.
1. You can get a clean glass, place a light source below and the film above. (A temp lightbox thought not very calibrated, can use to check for marks or other stuff)
2. You don't have a loupe (picture below), a cheap magnifying from a bookshop is still better than nothing.
3. Lastly, you can use a slide projector.
If you want to post your photos of your negative or slides, you can do so by using a camera, position above the film and focus nicely, then take a shot. If you are using roll film, it is suggested to post a few of different segment of the film to see if it is a repeated issue.
If you have no digital camera, I can tell you that even a IPhone will do. If you don't have a decent handphone camera, I actually have no solution on that part.
But Please Please Please post your negative photo if you want you want to ask about film or film developing issue. Scanned images as well as negative photo if you want to ask about scanner issue. Both if you don't know what went wrong. Please post unedited photos as you are asking for troubleshooting, not my image look nice or not?
Sorry to the below TS, I am just adding an example:

As you can see, the issue seems to occur throughout the batch of film. Response are to ask TS to check his roll. It could be a simple issue if the film doesn't have those marks on and we can safely tell that the issue most likely lies in the scanning process. There are many such repeated issue in CS where TS are getting the only answer call "check your film".
