That remind me not to forget Sapporo and the camera shops in Osaka (Nihon Bashi, I think) on Nov 28, 2010:cheers:

Trying out the K5's Electronic Level to assist in leveling the horizon while composing shots.
Not sure if it's accurate?
K5 users who have tried this Electronic level, do you find it accurate?

I've found it to be accurate. For me, the problem is apparent vs actual level. Sometimes objects or coastlines coming in at certain angles seem to give the appearance of a tilted horizon. In the end, have to decide between the two.

Pentax K5 FA35/2
Large ~10"x6" bounce card to the top left.
Metz48 on M mode. 1/8 power

I'm finding the large bounce card to be rather versatile for this. It was cut out to be roughly the size of a human head for the purpose of softer light for head portraits.
Saves me a lot of battery juice as well.

More on utilizing the bounce card.
This time dropping off the ambient.
K5 ISO 100; 1/180; f3.5;
Metz with bounce card at 1/16 power placed close.

The ambient exposure was 'wound down' with a shutter speed of 1/160, a weaker ISO of 100 and a bit smaller aperture of f3.5. I did not want the flash to splash all over the place to light the ambient, so used a 1/16 power with the flashed placed closer to subject.

Thanks for the advise bro. ;)
Nice portraits btw.

Uploaded some photos from the Anime Festival Asia today. A mixture of the Pentax DA17-70 and the Pentax DA35f/2.4 with K-x. Still have not gotten the right combination though as most shots are not as sharp as I liked, so any tips is appreciated on this.

I think you can be much less conservative with the shutter speed, especially shooting wide-angle. I'd roughly say that the pic is at least 2 stops under, so with all other settings unchanged, the shutter speed should be more like 1/60. And 18mm, f3.5 makes me think it's the kit lens you're using, so maybe can afford to stop down a bit to get better IQ, ie. use say f8, 1/15. There's a general softness in your pics (including those in the other thread) that may be due to the kit lens being used wide open.

But what bothers me more is the very strong magenta cast in all the pics. Is that a deliberate choice? Don't think you were shooting film since it's shot at 18mm...

Oops... well, even for the DA*16-50, I prefer to use f5.6 or f8 if I'm not concerned about the DOF. Can see continual improvement in the IQ as you stop down from f2.8 to f5.6, IMO. Don't be disheartened, try again? :)
