richx said:What's the price like on the DS2? If it's close enough, do consider getting the DS2 instead - other than buying the best viewfinder prism in the 1.5x bunch of cameras right now, you also get more buffer depth. It may not matter to most people, but if you shoot events, it can give you some extra shots as things unfold.
Nikonnew said:anyway, still considering between DL and Nikon D50
airconvent said:the D50 is almost the exact size as the D70...so size wise I find it too bulky. I'm amazed peopel even need to buy a battery grip for these sizes..man their hands must be very big!
anyway, if there is no need for upgrading the lenses, then the price of the Pentax and compact size has an edge.

Nikonnew said:I have tried out both the cams during the last IT show and fell in love with the DL immediately. the grip and the lens feels very solid as compared to Nikon. I have asked these questions before but did not get much response , maybe I can do it here
1) The DL does not have a AF lock, which I find it a sensible ommision as I always uses the shutter button to focus, has anybody missed this button yet? I noticed canon also does not have this button, is this AF-Lock exclusive to Nikon bodies only?
2) The auto Program mode is not shiftable, well , how convenient or critical is this shift function?
you mean to say for the DL, there is also a AF-L button, only it is via the menu? actually what is the difference between using the shutter button and the AF-L? never really able to figure this out.tiong78 said:The AF can be cancel with the holding of the OK button which u can set in the menu.
so once u lock, u just press n hold OK.DA lens can be manually focused for fine tuning from there.
I dun use auto much, i think you will probably end up using Av, Tv or M more frequently. only the Hyper P mode on ist D is good. cos it interchanges btw Tv n Av while locking exposure.
Hope that ans your qns.

and yes, as for the shiftable program, I might not miss it much as I like to use the Av and manual more, just like to find out from season user if they eventually will miss this one.
tiong78 said:no. the Ok button is located next to the LCD. with the 4 directional keys ard it.
its a setting in the cam that juz needs to be switch on so that by pressing the Ok button, cam will cancel AF.
No i dun miss it the P. but i do miss the hyper P.
richx said:In my own use, the AF-L button is as simple as sliding the AF mode up to MF position once I've gotten the focus that I want. It's also quick to slide it back down to AF mode again once you're done - it sure is easier than trying to use one of them rotating switches on some other brands.
What's with Pentax != upgradable? The "K10D" has been showcased at PMA, I'm sure if you buy a DL/DS2 now, this new body will come out just in time for a round of upgrades. There's also the "K100D" that leaked out - and this is the one I want ...![]()
