Sunsets - a tried and tested subject, but I never know how each one of them will be like, so I thought I will just take them regularly to see how they will all turn out to be :) .

Here's the first in this project  .

Hi wiz23, thank you for your comments. If you had meant to say the pic is a bit underexposed (sorry I have to learn the jargon used :embrass: ), it was intentional, in a way. I had wanted to have everything else except the sky in almost complete darkness as the details in the foreground were too distracting. So I dialed in some underexposure, -1ev I think, and that's why it is as such. Perhaps I need to put in some effort on learning to use layers in postprocessing to separate the sky from the background and adjust them differently to get better effects.

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your point of view :) .

Hello again, Peng :) I understand what u're trying to achieve. It's what many call a silhouette image.

But, what I meant was that the sky in your pic was underexposed. To enhance the sky, u don't really have to use layers for your image. Just increase the contrast, or play with the curves. I hope u don't mind me editing your pic a bit ...

If u don't want me to put up this pic, just let me know, I'll remove it. But basically, the only thing I did was to adjust the curve to get something like an 'S' shape. I dunno whether u like it like this ...

Hi wiz23, I was trying to do another processing too. You are right about not having to use layers. I forgot that once I got any part of the image as black in-camera, no amount of processing will get back the details :) . So I just up the exposure again in post processing. Here's the new look. Hope this is better, though I know I lose a bit of color saturation which I will just leave it as is. No problem with you sharing your attempt. I am here to learn and improve :) .

Cool, bro! This is definitely better than the first pic! Sorry for seeming so kpo. But, I like your image so much I couldn't resist :embrass:

I love the colours of this sunset! :) Some thoughts bro. hope you dun mind.

I kinda feel that there are too many areas in the black. Distracts me from the sunset. And.. the pagoda is slightly tilted..

Thank you. I hope to be able to do these regularly so hope you can see improvements as I go along too :) . Do drop in once in a while, even if only just to view :) .

Hi Mendis, I always welcome your comments ;) . Only a small patch of the sky had the clouds and therefore showing some color. Thats why so much dark "framing" :bsmilie: .

Also, there was no problem with the pagoda, it was straight alright. Its my camera that was tilted :bsmilie: . I was concentrating on the changing colors so I didn't notice the tilt of my camera  and I decided against doing a slight rotation in pp to correct it.

Here's the pict from this evening.

More of the sky, less of the foreground. Think the pagoda is still a little bit tilted, could be due to trying too hard to compensate for the distortion of my lens. Pardon me too for the same skyline. Just that its close to where I live. Hope to explore some other interesting places to take sunsets.

This is nice but seems a little oversharpen to me.

:)

Hi Qazwer, I have reprocessed it again with less sharpening. Hope this is an improvement :)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)

Here is one for today. Quite different in the colors and I thought a vertical format was more suitable for this. I didn't realize till I uploaded this onto my PC that there was a flight of birds just coming in on the right side just above the horizon. Decided to just leave them as is even though they are motion blurred.
