Hello,

I am posting from Nongkhai Thailand... I was using my 7D with a Kingston ElitePro 2GB card when the camera seemed to hang on writing the card. It was a night scene. I suspect that the card was just slow (It's much slower than my Lexar 80x). I switched off the camera while the red light was still on (yeah i didn't know better) and then switched the cam on again..... and I cannot read the card now... the cam asks me to reformat the card....

Question is, is the data lost forever? Can I retrieve it? I cannot read the card on a USB card reader... there's 1GB of really valuable data in there... anyone can help?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that but PM me if you need help in recovering software.

go buy another card if don't have spare while sourcing for recovery.

Yes, better get another card and keep your other card with the 1GB of valuable pictures and return to Singapore to try recover them.

All the best.

there are still chance for recovery, agree as what other mentioned. Good Luck

Sorry to hear of this.

I've encountered the same problem as you last time...and I've lost all the pics as well though I managed to recover all the pictures which were already 'cut-into-half'.

Though I didn't get too lucky with this software, you might still want to give it a try.

It's a freeware afterall.

Good luck!

S**t man, this sounds exactly like what I've experienced twice before. Except mine's a D5D using 512MB Elite Pro.

On both occasions, file recovery software failed to retreive anything. And after the second incident, the card could not be re-formatted at all. I'm really starting to worry now as I've got one more 512MB and 2 1024MB Elite Pro cards, even though they haven't been giving any trouble...

All the best. Do let us know if you've successfully recovered your images!

i remembered last time my very old digicam Casio...
did have such problem...

it makes me spoiled two times my SD Card...

these kind of things still mystery for me...

Stop using this card... get another one and keep this one safe. It has happened to be before when i removed the card when the camera was still writing. You really have to wait till the red light is off before you take the card out.

What I did was to use a data recovery software to retrieve all the data from the card. Then reformat the card and all was fine, I lost about 5 pictures in total. But the rest of the pictures are fine and gave me absolutely no problems. Let me know if you need help. :)

If I remeber correctly, the Elite Pro series do not work well with both KM 5D and 7D. The read/ write speed to the KM DSLR are unsatisfactory slow as compare to other DSLR brand.

YEa.. kingston has problems with KM... the 4gb elite pro keeps getting corrupted... very unreliable on the 7D!!! dont know if any others have the same problem

I have to disagree on this. I have been using the 512, 1 gb and 2 gb Elite pro with the 7D for some time now and had not experienced any problem with corrupted images. I have using the 512 for more than a year while the 1gb and 2 gb more than 2 months. I shoot mainly in JPG fine.

Been using the 512 n 1gb with no problems also... so far only have problems with the 4gb...and i use 3 different cards. all of them are the same... maybe the camera buffer cannot handle it... but the thing is.. i dont shoot continous mode.. even for studio shots its still hangs the camera sometimes :dunno:

anyone exprience the same?

Thanks for all the replies... I got home only this morning around 12+...

Anyway I really dun know how lar... Kingston Taiwan has kindly send me an URL for a data recovery software but they also said that if the card cannot be detected on the PC, then I cannot retrieve the photos....

I tried a few times already and I cannot read the card on my card reader... tokrot, if u have any solutions, please help!

With regard to the Kingston cards, they are indeed slow... and my camera hanged twice on the 2nd of the 2GB cards that I bought (1st one crashed when I switched off the camera when the red light was still on)... I wonder if I should spend more and buy 2 other Lexar or SanDisk cards... what do u think?

Thanks bros....

Eh.... Izzit card failure? I'd used SanDisk Extreme, Kingston Regular Speed, Kingston High Speed Pro in normal Singapore weather down to minus temperature to drop in snow. So far no problems... YET.

These CF cards, say die suddenly die one. ARGH~~~~

Tried to format the card on my camera but it failed to format... die... I think the card really died... must go and do a 1-to-1 exchange with Convergent...
