Panasonic L-1 lost steam so fast?

Thats a forward looking AGM statement every company would make just to appease their shareholders and fanboys... especially when their marketshare is crumbling away fast.

None of Oly's DSLR or the Pany L1 made it to the top 10 DSLR best seller list for 2006. Luckily their P&S are still moving. Heard in Thailand Oly disappeared completely.

That is the problem with Oly. They are making money in critical applications unit that the DSLR division got "overlooked".

So whats next? Hello Kitty mju cameras?

They actually made that. In Japan. I saw them in Tokyo in 2003. They have thought of things you didn't. LOL. :bsmilie:

Maybe there'll be a Lamborghini Edition of the upcoming e3.

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Maybe you can convince them to make a Hello Miffy special edition E-1!!!

Ha ha ha... that would be Mission Impossible.

Back to the L-1...

Does anyone care about the Venus engine?
I thought you folks were all ga-ga over Image Stabilization?
And since the camera is in the 4/3 system, this means things are interchangable, then why not the L-1 then?
Ergonomics? The same design was there for yonks. Maybe it is all about getting used to. (just wondering, please don't flame me).

These are just some of the thoughts that went through my head.

The pics posted by tomcat showed that the Venus engine does produce excellent images.

It's Panny's first outing, and remember, they are HUGE.

Japanese companies all share special relationships with each other (read: xenophobic), and every one is almost always backed up by a bigger brother.

We have seen this in the past year, i.e. Sony-KM, Hoya-Pentax. Nikon has always been backed up by non other than Mitsubishi.

So I believe future Panny-Leica offerings will be complimentary, i.e. option of in-body IS and in-lens IS, lens offerings.

Why? SD cards are now much better than CF and are just as cheap if not cheaper.... and OEM batteries for the L1 are very cheap and affordable. :dunno:

:( :o

yesterday got a chance to hold the L1...play ard a lil and despite of
a few quirks that i dun really like...i think i dun mind having it as my everyday camera.
i'm not too sure if i could manually focus well with the dim viewfinder...but
its an 'ok' cam to hold and use. I really want to know how well the AF could
focus in low light situation. Anyone to enlighten?

but the price... really make me go "Alamak!"

Like you, I am hoping that Panny can revise the price for the L-1 or it would be hard to sell, especially when the new Oly systems are released. But then again, the smaller 400 series cameras are really tempting... sigh...

seem to me that lots of pple prefer "big n pro look" cam than smaller one ...

hey like u say b4, oly cam help to recover sooner rite..no wait la..:)

haha...'big and pro looking'!! hoo hoo...that's what ppl want is it?
i guess so. i really tot the L1 is small...but really a Mr Big.

I do...i mean...REALLY DO...hope that panny can revise those
quirks as well...it's really heart warming to hold a body that
works like a manual cam.

1. make the viewfinder brighter so that manual focusing will not be SO HARD
2. make it a lil smaller for better grip
3. make the AF better n 'low light friendly'

suddenly cant remember what else was quirky...hehehe

When this MERCEDES-priced FourThird body drops to KIA level LELONG price, it'll sure be popular. Waiting for it to drop below $1.5k to buy the lense and keep the body as a backup.

It will be a while before this happens but then again, we will see what happens. PMA will have an impact on the "older" 4/3 range of cameras and systems. Especially if Oly puts out new cameras, all above the 10MP resolution! Wow... I cannot wait for PMA to happen!

Going by Panasonic's track record of refreshing their products, theres a possibility of seeing an improved Panasonic L-1 (the "L-2"?) coupled with an official launch/sale of the 25/1.4. Maybe thats why we're seeing L-1s at near-LELONG prices first on costco.com and now all over on kakaku.com.

The E-1 replacement has been delayed so many times that many have already given up and bailed out of Oly's 4/3 system. Oly better get its act together and show something credible for PMA 2007! Not another bloody lump of plastic being passed off as the "E-3".

I wonder if there will be a trade in programme for existing E-1 owners to the E-X?
