fz1 focuses fast and has a good IS lens but the lack of small aperture modes and fine control makes it a power compact and still a clunky GUI... and the horribly small LCD is so cheapskate...
the 730 is slower in AF but allows manual control... and this one has more buttons for GUI...
Most important point would be the storage card that it supports.
SD is easily available and has higher capacity. SM and xD, one is obsolete and the other is still very very new. Both difficult to get and doesn't have higher capacity- not more than 128mb.
Get a camera that supports CF or SD. That's the best storage card available. Lots of choices and capacity.

I think getting a camera primarily based on its peripheral factors might be a bit :dunno:...
what cameras support SD anyway besides Lumix and Toshiba? what about sm/xd? mem stick? cf? u find that roughly the same distribution... xD had 256 for at least two mths, and about a mth ago the prices became manageable...
consumer cams that is the sweet spot, dun think u need 512meg for any SD card camera that I know of...
