Over expose on A77 with external flash.

Precisely. Pre-flash TTL won't cause your image to be overexposed. Like what bro nabuey said, it might be because of your camera's metering settings.

For this reason, I always use manual flash.

Also another reason could be that the camera was compensating for the background, hence it overpowered the foreground

Catchlight is right, looking at your EXIF info, your ISO is high.

Since you are going to flash the subject, might as well set the ISO for the best IQ.
Try shooting with ISO 50 or 100 and see if there's any improvement.

Last resort is to dial the flash EV to -0.7 or -1 (set to your taste)

Thank all for the infor will experience it more and test it out . really appreciate the help given ...

(p.s Kei sometime readt your posting feel hurt BUT what u say is true hahah. If gt chance hope to meet u in person heheh)

Some tips for you;
If you want to use flash as main light and still able to see ambient light, set your ambient light exposure between one and half to 2 stops lower than flash.

If you want flash as fill, exposed for ambient and set flash one and half to two stops lower than ambient.

Hope this help.

LOL ! :bsmilie: ...You'll have better chances of meeting Big Foot in person walking at the BG than meeting the ultra shy Kei.

...after awhile on these forums, you'll begin to see thru Kei and realise that beneath all that sledgehammer bluntness, is just another person who is passionate about Photography, who will not beat around the bush. ;)

Actually, I think I need to highlight something. If you all read the manuals of your flash, you all should know that whenever the flash is NOT pointing straight, it automatically switches to Pre-Flash TTL. Reason being, ADI only works because it knows your distance due to focusing information from your 'D' lenses. However, if you are using an old minolta lens that is not 'D' version, ADI doesn't work even if you point straight.

ADI needs to know how far your subject is before it can throw an accurate amount of flash power, and the moment you are using it on bounce or through a modifier, it WILL highly likely fail. IIRC, this is written in the manual (if not, its on most alpha related resources online)

The reason I mentioned this is that the photos look like you are using ceiling bounce...

but all these doesn't directly answer your question.

As some have mentioned, metering is likely the problem.
