ops manning during exam period. how often is exemption rejected?

My first ops manning nothing happens. The 2nd ops manning clashes with my post grad exam period. I emailed the NS portal regarding my issue, only to hear from a call from a junior staff from a camp (instructed by the chief clerk) that i'm expected to return in between my exam timing if an activation occurs, i.e. i completed my papers today at 6pm and instead of preparing the papers tomorrow at 9am, i will have to go for the ops manning sign in sign out. i would think that every mins the day before the papers count, isn't it true for anyone who have taken exams before? i dunno if an exemption is allowed, could it be reasonably just that 3 days (2 days exam) or would it be easier for them adminstratively to exempt the whole duration.

in addition, it sounded very funny, the ops manning falls exactly in the same duration as the ICT which i have defered due to the same reason. how would a unit already in camp be arranged to go for an ops manning, and if the ICT for the same duration is exempted, shouldn't the ops manning follows?

it sounded like i'm being brushed off with just a verbal notice, and thought that i should write in formally so that they will take things more seriously, although i really dun want to make things difficult for anyone. i didn't think that calling up further will help as there is no proof of whatever so that is said even if promised. i also dun trust the people inside will care much as long as it causes hassle to them.

any further advices on how to go about doing that?

hai i also worry about my ict in the future unlike those going local uni can avoid it for 3 yrs...heard before those in part time nus/ntu studies approaching exam period also kena call up for ict with no chance for deferment.

talk to your MPO; the best person that u should approach regarding personal matter.

i went for my local uni studies, AND I STILL got called up for ops manning, reservists, blah blah blah. depends on what units you are serving in, and if they are core units...

talk to your PC or OC or unit S1, about this problem. they will be understanding enough. and recalls/turnouts are always on saturdays, so not much of a chance you have an exam on sundays....

It is a hassle no doubt, but you can be the first to sign and leave, that can be arranged.
And it has been mentioned, there is usually no exams on Sundays.

exams on mon and tue. if it is on sat or before (more likely but not guaranteed rite?), it might be fine.

however, although verbally i have been told sign in sign out, would there be problems when i return since verbal no proof? i have not been to an ops manning before, so dunno actual situation.

nope, NZ and aus on low priority. wanted a cheap place good for variety including portraits. have been to perth for my sis wedding though.

Not sure if it helps, but the recalls that my friends and I had (different units) always falls on Saturday. Magic hour is 2pm.

And when you have the S1 clerk calling you repeatedly on days leading up to the Saturday, chances are high there will be mobilisation and vice versa.

yep, more like scan in scan out. haha. they use scanning nowadays, no more signing in and out. after scanning in will go somewhere nearby to lay out your field pack, and den after checking, can go back. so if you wanna chop chop go in and out, better make sure your fieldpack items are all there. or else, go beg borrow steal from someone who has already checked his.. haha.

if all goes smooth.. half hour in out max, provided you are not area IC or any KAH. my last turnout had an entire brigade flooding the camp. i went in and out in half hour...

All the mob ops that I have attended or have heard of are on Sats. The main reason is so that they can conduct ops without having to pay people their salary. I have not yet heard of a case where ops is on a working day.

email sent in, and reply that relevant departments will contact me (by phone, so no warranty so to speak). only thing is how far should i go out to request for that written reply when a call was already made, cos i dun really want to create a hoo-ha over something that may not occur in the end - which is why i need to hear some advices from as many people who have been through it before...

Dun worry too much on this and spend more time preparing for your upcoming exams instead... When it has to come, it will come Did you see any "symptom" of it? Just hope that there is no spillover if it really comes... that one is no fun

Just write in with the proper paper proof. Normally they'll grant you an exemption. If not, seek an audience with the S1 or G1 (manpower) normally that will helps.
