Opinion on Tokina 80-400/F4.5-5.6 AF lens

Hi,

I have been looking for a tele lens in the range of 300 to 400 mm in Nikon mount for sometime. Just came across a Tokina 80-400mm/F4.5-5.6 and thought of seeking the opinion on its performance.

i have not used the tokina, so i can't advise you on it's handling, but just tot i'd mention that there are 2 other lens in that range also:

sigma 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 EX OS APO
nikon AF VR ZOOM 80-400mm

both have VR/OS features.

Thanks a lot. I have kind of liked the compactness of the Tokina but will take a serious look at the other two.

SIGMA 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 EX OS Nikon Mount S$2280.00 (before gst)

the nikon is around that price too. abt $2300+

I have this lens with Pentax mount. overall performance is not that good especially when max zoom to 400mm.
Attached a sample taken with 270mm, F5.6, 1/90sec, ISO400.

that's a big difference....

but i guess gotta bear in mind that the other two comes with some stabilization functions

yup... with stabilization is definately cost a bomb.. but image is wanderful
