For a DSLR, i would propose you to consider the 28-70. Reason being, it uses 77mm filter rather than 82mm. Ask yourself, do you need to shoot at f2.8-f/4 regularly? The sigma i have is sharp from f/4 onward. I do not have experience with the dx lens though.

Besides its being a fast lens, the performance at f/5.6 - f/11 is also the same. But at same 24mm range ... the Nikon performs better as the Sigma has "a bit" of distortion. But if you shoot indoors n non-flash a lot ... consider getting a 50mm f/1.8 [or even the 1.4] for your workhorse
