Hi all,

Any opinion between the two?
The one between the D70 kit lens and the Sigma 24-70mm EX f2.8 lens.
Which give better performance/picture.

Known fact, the Sigma is big and noisy which is not a problem.

Buy Nikon. Backup services is there 3rd party lenses tends to fungus and services on par or no at all. Pay a bit extra with less worry.

If you are going to use on D70, get the Nikon. You'll appreciate the wider angle of coverage at the 18 end (which converts to 27.5mm) compared to the 36mm of the Sigma.

For a DSLR, i would propose you to consider the 28-70.

Reason being, it uses 77mm filter rather than 82mm.

Ask yourself, do you need to shoot at f2.8-f/4 regularly?

The sigma i have is sharp from f/4 onward. I do not have experience with the dx lens though.

A friend that uses both .. really praises the Nikon 18-70.

Besides its being a fast lens, the performance at f/5.6 - f/11 is also the same.

But at same 24mm range ... the Nikon performs better as the Sigma has "a bit" of distortion.

But if you shoot indoors n non-flash a lot ... consider getting a 50mm f/1.8 [or even the 1.4] for your workhorse :D
