opinion need on nikon s2

hi,

recently a overseas friend offered me his nikon s2 rangefinder for about slightly under 1k.
claims it to be in working condition. comes with a 50mm lens.
from pics sent, exteriors looks worn but otherwise the buttons, seals etc looks ok.

need some opinion here.

1. is it worth 1K? i know is a collectible item, just not too sure abt the pricing
2. anything i have to chk or take note off, as i will hand-on the cam next week
3. wat's the market pricing for nikon rangefinder lenses?

In Singapore, Nikon RF is not so common, but in Japan, if you walk into any second hand shop, you should be able to find a decent working S2 copy for about S$1K. Body alone in some of the shops I've seen goes for about S$700 to $900 for a user condition one.

Having said that, I saw one piece in a shop in Pennisular Shopping centre going for sub-1K yesterday.

If you are looking for a RF body to shoot, why not get a new one which comes with 1 year warranty and don't have to worry about light leaks and jam this and that?

haha yap i think i know which peninsula shop u refering to, well that was wat set me thinking agian abt my friend's offer again.

am considering it in part as a collectible piece but more importantly as a shooting body
