Hi people,

Recently, I just completed my first corporate video job with EK Paintball Pte Ltd.

I am sharing more of my mistakes and experiences over at my blog. You can have a further read up there >>> www.nazrinsalim.wordpress.com/2014/06/17/online-content-marketing-video-ek-paintball-group/

Briefly, it was a total different ball game compared to doing wedding videography.

I need to prepare shot lists. I need to brief and describe how the final video looks like. I need to plan and schedule the shoot in order to co-ordinate the logistics and actors. And at the same, I have to plan everything on my end so as to manage the expectations from the business owners.

The business owners wanted to do a online video marketing to market the sport of paintball and with the aim to propel their sales. There were few considerations that I suggested and I believe it is highly effective.

1. Video length
- Should not be less than 30 seconds and longer that 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
- This is just a generic guide. It has to depend on the art direction stipulated.

2. Content Streamlined
- The video content should be precised and straight-forward. I mean, yes, every entrepreneur is proud of their business and achievement.
- The content have to be streamlined objectively so that it won't turn to be like "self-bragging" video, if you know what I mean.

I also did additional video for the company. A corporate portfolio video.

I would not have taken up this job without the coffee sessions I had with Bro Rodney from BambooPictures. His sharing and encouragements during my early stages of learning journey, were the extra boost of confidence that I needed.

I may not produce a spectacular video. This is the best I can give.

As usual, criticism are greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Great videography! Good energy! Nice edits. Can start thinking about directing and producing next!

great videos! for the profiling one I would have preferred to hear someone talk though, be it en employee, the owner or a customer. putting a face with an opinion to a video reinforces the credibility of the company.

hi bro,

good to see new work from you.

i think both are pretty good as corporate videos. i like the action and the motion graphics. as for the individual video clips, they are also good but i believe you can manage even more and better shots - high / low / close / far / fast / slow, etc

from marketing perspective, perhaps you could consider in future to discuss with the client to split the video into 2 or 3 smaller themes and inform them to use the videos at different dates? e.g. first video is themed on fun/action, purely to engage the viewers and attract attention (potential clients to come try their hand at the game), gather some feedback, do a bit of social engagement. a few weeks later, then release the next video for the company to showcase the locations plus little bit of the action and more scenes of the shop and their products.

this way, production can be one-time, and the delivery for marketing can be carried out over a few weeks/months ... first video (fun/action) to attract attention and encourage online distribution. subsequent videos then to showcase more about the company, and videos further on can be themed on events, competitions, company showing support for schools/associations, etc

one last thing, might be worthwhile to look for visual effects specialist to collaborate (just to give the action scenes more 'impact') ... budget dependent of course =D

From the marketing perspective, I have the similar thoughts as yours but again, it is the limited production budget I was given. Considering that, I cannot proceed with that approach. I will be coming out with my own money.

With regards to the shots, I believe I can do better. I was caught off-guard. There was a plan to bring in 10 volunteer seasoned paintballers to act as recreational players. That way, I am have more control in terms of shots and choreographed the actions. But, there weren't any on the day of shoot. The business owners forgot to arrange for them. Shooting recreational paintball is seriously boring as they are quite new to the sport. They play the game as though they are doing FIBUA. More shooting and less actions. If you know what I mean. I believe I would have more control if there were actors.

In another perspective, I would like to do a documentary kind of style. Where the video marketing is broken down into 3 themes just like you mentioned. But, they were keen on the idea they had. I believe Rodney did mentioned to me when comes to corporate gigs, 30% creativity is needed as they are the paymaster. So, I am giving them what they wanted. So I gave in.

Visual effects, yes. It is not easy man to do visual effects. Even to think or to create something out of nothing. Will look into it.

Thanks Bro for taking the time to view and provide some insights. Really appreciate it a lot.

Suggested that but they were keen on the idea they had. I was thinking if I could that, least, I could put a face behind the business. It will have that personal touch.

Anyway, that profile video was a FREE add-on value I provided as I wanted to practice more. I believe the profile video should help them when they are doing sales presentation to corporate clients. Instead of using power-point slides, they can use the video to showcase their credibility and the sports in a nutshell.

Need to learn how to write. It took a while before they provided me the write-up. About 6 weeks, my edit cannot proceed. So, pro-actively, I came up with the write-up based on some HR articles. So that they have visuals to see how the final video looks like. It was tough to come up with the write up.

Thank you seniors. Thank you for your time and inputs. I am just sharing my mistakes so that I can move forward and hope other forumers will benefit from this sharing as well.

Forgot to mention. The movie "Hurt Locker" and the making of it, were the inspirations. So that explained for the quite a number of shaky shots. ;)

that was nice. I love shaky cam.. Hahah..

Quite liked the video especially the accompanying music and the pauses where the 'messages' are flashed on the screen. Well edited too.
