Also have one more situation (but I don't often see many people use this):
Balancing flash and ambient light.

There was a one time I was sending a friend back to China, when I decided to head to the T1 viewing gallery since we had alot of time to spare. Decidded to do some casual shots. It was at night. Since I wanted the planes to be visible, I Ended up shooting at f/4.2 at ISO 1600 with slave flash.

Theoretically I could have used f/1.4 and dropped the ISO to 800, but then DOF would be too thin. I think I used a D80 for this shot.

Send your friend off, also carry lighting stand and reflector....? Who's shadow is that on the right bottom corner?

I usually use fill-in flash at 1/3 strength to capture ambient lighting for background and facial features.

You using D3 now? ;p

Hmm. Mainly the D80 for most things, including small events and weddings. D3 only comes out when big guns (or maybe eye candy) are needed.

Now trying to decide if I should let the D2x or the D300 be my "official pro camera".

From a technical viewpoint the D300 is superior with the new autofocus tracking capabilities, ISO push and FPS (in non-crop mode).

However, the mirror slap (something which I always look out for in pro cameras) is not to my liking (A pro camera should have better controlled mirror slap!) and the D2x still feels better in my hand.

I think I came from a shoot straight to the airport via MRT. Shadow is his. on first glance may be hard to visualise it but the flash was // to him. Glass reflected the light at an unusal angle.

That's why.. the noise at ISO1600 is already much finer than the grains of ISO400 film and people still make noise about it... And some people prefer the grainy look of high ISO film.. Get the picture?
Pardon my ignorance, never actually did much film photography before!

Anyway, i think this thread has served its purpose. No more indoor :think:photography for me, that for sure!
