hey guys,
want to ask an opinion. How many of you have bought anything from the numerous camera shops in Lucky Plaza? was there just now and was doubtful if they are honest and wonders if they're more for tourists and charge higher prices than those shops in this forum..
i went to a shop called The Southern Cross to ask about some lens hood. thought the uncle there was quite alright. Anyone bought anything from this shop?

Haha, I just got my battery grip (BG-E6) from there for $370, cheaper than elsewhere.

To me, if price is right, why not. Besides, all battery grips do not come with warranty, or do they? All their products are grey set BTW. So as long as you've done your homework, should be alright.

HOWEVER, that shop facing front, near the staircase of the taxi stand should be avoided simply because they have special price for all their products. I meant specially expensive.

Some idiot at Lucky Plaza quoted me 2x the MSRP of Canon! Crazy buggers.

Hahaha...

That is a tourist trap! They just treat whoever walk-in as tourist.

Wherever you are - Lucky or Peninsula, Singapore and Overseas....know your stuff, do your homework.

There really is no one shop that will not want a bigger profit. Singaporeans are just over-protected that they don't know how to open their "golden mouth" to bargain. The alternative is to walk away if the price is not right.

Sometimes you get a bargain, sometimes you get con. It is not possible to win all the time :)

Haha, I won't be surprised. That special shop I mentioned is selling BG-E6 for a special Sunday price of $486. :bsmilie:

typically they see how much they can chop you for

i got quoted "$1500 special offer" for 17-40 there. EXCLUDING GST.

They r a few thread about shops in Lucky plaza and SLS, may go search for it.
Usually advisible to avoid them, except some says Lords is good actually...

i buy stuff from Southern Cross, i get my stuff at good prices there, better than most of the other shops, however i think the advice of researching and knowing your prices and basic knowledge of what you are looking to get still stands. Else anywhere you go, its easy to get conned.

Yup, true true!! you have to do your homework first before buying, or else you will be cheated!:D But best if you can get from reputable shops that we all discuss eg, john3:16, ms color and all..

But overall, do your homework, check the prices first at the different shops, and you might find yourself a bargain!! :D

there used to be a black list of shops listed by Case i think, dont know where to find it liao.

20 years ago, when I wanted to buy my 1st SLR, they dont want to entertain me because I was young and dont look like got $$$ to buy. I had never gone back there (lucky plaza) since.

lords is alright, but do your homework anyways

buy from the rest AT YOUR OWN RISK; it isn't just price they can play with. can remove things from the box, and sell to you later at higher price.. the list of things that people can play with is inexhaustive, literally

I have send my BG to CSC for serving & checking before... they do honor the warranty based on your receipt. :)

Hmm I think they're quite dubious, would rather place my faith in the more reputable dealers. If you're not getting any big ticket items, then I guess there's not much harm in testing water at Lucky Plaza.

Never really trust shops in Lucky Plaza, Sim Lim Square too.
