That is one big camera!! But consider the cost of developing photo prints if that is what u are after finally. That is why I stick to a conventional SLR after all. With cheap Fuji film from Cathay, and 15% discount at Standard Colour Centre with the SAF 11B, it isn't too expensive to shoot dozens of rolls for fun.

hi, i agree with the cost. actually i like convential SLR very much.cos the picture will be real. i cannot make much changes to it. but i am considering a dimage 7i, becos i do free lance actual day wedding photography. and with only 1 camera, it is quite hard for me to do a better job. and i dun think i want to invest on another SLR, hence i tot why not go for a simple digital camera.

i oready own 2 point and shoot, thought they are at least 4-6 yrears old, and then i also have 1 APS. so i dun see the point in getting another point and shoot. sigh... quite confused about what to do now.

i agree, with $1500 i'd go get the body, the 28-70 and 70-210 from ralphii82, and still have money to get a wide-angle zoom (not the fast ones, of course).

"Simple digital camera"??!! Well the Dimage 7 isn't exactly simple is it?! And it sure costs a bomb. With that $1500, I am sure u can get lots of decent Minolta bodies with some really good lens. And with the Dynax 5 which has most features, it really isn't that difficult to get better lens with wider coverage for your job. Or better still, trade in your Dynx 5 for the Dynax 7 and use that $1500 to cover part of the costs and get more lens. May be a better long term solution. After all, if u cover weddings, the couple is sure to want conventional prints. No use trying to convince them to go digital on a CD-ROM and view it through a VCD player of PC. No kick. More face to have a dozen albums to pass around during family gatherings u know what I mean............hehehehe.............

agree with all that u say, but then again, more and more photograopher are going for digital shots, which is the reason why, i tot why not. and these wedding couple are willing to fork out $$ for the development from the digital cam. and the development cost isnt that expensive actually.

Wedding using digitial camera? hmm.. better find out if the camera meets your requirements first or not.

I would find out how the AF performs in low light. Noise at medium ISO (200 or 400) is important. Shutter lag and cycle times are also very important.

Lastly, you definitely need a program flash.

True there will be times when u really drive a good motor drive of at least 3-4 frames per second just to capture that moment. Not sure if the CCD of digital cameras are up to it or not. Maybe not the prosumer ones but the professional ones.

That's true. I donno how much faster can the 7i go but my Dimage 7 missed many shots on a friends' ROM. Luckily, I brought my film SLR as well and had another friend take pictures as well.

Secondly it is really had to use direct flash when using the digital cameras (too much white outs), so I was bouncing flash all the time and looking at the ceiling. Maybe I should have just set to negative EV.

Maybe a digital SLR would be better. Just try to keep the ISO at 100, consumer digital cams images can be pretty noisy.
