My Nikkor 50/1.4 and CZJ 50/1.5 behave the same way. But, it's interesting that the Canon 50/1.5 is so sharp and contrasty wide open. My copy was not that good looks like...

Send for CLA. Could be hazy. Mine came mint but there's some oil on the aperture blades so must cleaned. So far I am quite happy with the performance but can't avoid the flare when shoot directly at a light source.

Btw, the second copy featured here is mine.
