wonder if i should bring along my nikon D50 while going to sea kayaking.

i dun intend to shoot underwater, neither do i intend to drop into water. however i wonder how advisable it is to go sea kayaking expecting not to go into water and how should i protect my nikon D50 or should i not bring it at all.

anyone with such experiences?

I went sea kayaking at Phuket with my PNS last year. Was provided with some special rubber waterproof bag to store the cam when not in use. Even if drop the bag in the sea, will float and the cam will be dry. When in use, well, just be careful and will be fine.

baja dry bags. get the smallest one you can find. Campers should have!

its better to get a dry bag to store your camera.you never know when the wake from ships will hit you.
I have done photography while sailing with the boat heeled at 30' with 20knots wind before.Half the time I was trying to protect her from the sea sprays...

Simple,

use www.ewa-marine.de

Not the best of protection, but better than none and alot lighter and easier to manouver than conventional hard housings

Very Interesting. How much does the housing cost for the D50? Also check the local distributor, seems to be in Malaysia doing rental ($250/day???)

I am using a Pentax Optio WP for my water-sports needs.

faced with the same problems too. and i kayak when i haf the time to do so. but nv tried taking pics because i am scared of dropping it.

i have seen PNS, but dslr... sigh. dunno lo.. :dunno:

I am also gonna be doing the same thing, canoeing n boating in Phuket soon. First time out at sea with SLR, i know i wont be snorkeling so just need bag to water proof my storage when not shooting. Wat is a Baja bag? Does it have zips? The term refered as dry bags, same as baja?
Clicknick wrote that he was provided with special waterproof bags, so cool, there are services over there renting? I came across LowePro ones at cathay, its like the conventional ones we carry but has many compartments n rubber zips n is waterproof. $644!! so ex!
I end up buyin from an adventure shop, a waterproof kinda pouch/drop in bag. Soft smooth material, suposedly wont sink, big enough to put 3 cameras, 1 compartment only. With no zips, u wrap the opening 3 times then clip it with the typical black clip joined on it, together.

is this advisable to bring on a wet trip?

You could always try Aquapac waterproof bags; they come in various sizes, for compact cameras to dslrs. The bags are guaranteed for 3 years and they offer protection up to 5m, which is sufficient for most sea sports.

Got one recently & used it to take pictures while kayaking. Their website is at http://www.aquapac.net.
