Noob questions on Video Camera

Hi everyone,

I just got my video cam (Sony PJ-660). Thanks for the recommendations.

Just a few noob questions:

1) Can i use normal camera CPL filters on the camera? Will it increase moire?
2) The file format .MTS is new to me. I have Adobe Premier Pro but it is 'heavy' to open and edit the files. I was wondering if there are other softwares (like Mpeg Streamclip) that i can use to view (and if possible edit) this .MTS file?

.mts is a highly compressed format for AVCHD. Adobe Premiere Pro should be able to import AVCHD files. But make sure the file structure in your SD card are not modified.

If you want to quickly convert the ,mts files to other format such as mov or mp4, go buy the software called clipwrap.

Btw, I have 4 more questions:

3) Is there a hot shoe adaptor for Sony Handycam that would convert them to normal hotshoe? I saw a few types in stores but there seems to be many different versions?
4) I used Seinheiser G3 with D800 and with the PJ660. In my noob opinion, the PJ660 seems to pick up the vocals better? The D800 has a low feedback noise that i cant seem to get rid off. The PJ660 seems to have it clearer. This is what i listened from both products in camera. Not when i exported. Any advice on this?
5) What is a recommended Semi-Pro Boom Mike to use with a PJ660? Rode Video Microphone?
6) What is a recommended headphones to use?

3) no idea on that! had that problem with my very first Sony handycam too!
4) I think it's because PJ660 already has audio features within its body. a DSLR body sacrifices most audio features due to the form factor.
5) Rode VideoMic Pro is not bad, that's a shotgun mic and you can connect it to the boom. otherwise Rode NTG also not bad.
6) Sennheiser or Audiotechnica not bad

3)Sony has this adapter:

4) To get rid of ground loop, you can use a beachtek dxa-2t on your D800.
5) PJ660 has unbalanced 3.5mm input. Long cable not recommended due to hiss. Consider plugging the Rode videomic pro into a Senny G3 wireless or use a Rode NTG with Senny SKP100.
6) Good value for money is A-JAYS from Sweden. Earplugs are more comfortable for hot weather and long days. Flat "meepok" cables are tangle-proof.
