Nokton 35mm f/1.2 and f/1.4

i have the nokton 1.4 and recently got the nokton 1.2
after some days of usage, i realised the nokton 1.2 when used at 1.4 seems wider than the nokton 1.4 wide open, by almost 2 steps. ok i based this on my cam's AE la (so dunno zun or not).

ok this sounds a little confusing i know... bit hard for me to bring across.
but, if it makes sense to u, is this norm? if so, why?

sorry... do you mean brighter by almost 2 stops?

e.g. both at f/1.4 at the same scene
cam AE with the nokton1.4 would shoot at 1/60sec
cam AE with the nokton1.2 would shoot at 1/15sec (2 stops slower)

the nokton 1.4 shoots at either 1/30 or 1/15.

happen to notice this after some nites out, not sure about day.

I think most super bright lens like 1.2 and 1.4 tend to vignette wide open, that might screwed up the camera light meter somewhat. If you are using Bessa, remember that the light meter tend to weight the meter to the lower left corner, which is usually where the lens tend to vignette (around the edge)

like sabrewolf said, bessa metering weighted to the bottom left... but 2 stops sounds pretty drastic in terms of vignetting. the nokton1.4 is wide open, while the nokton1.2 is stopped down by half a stop.

that been said, i have not had the chance to examine the vignetting of these 2 lenses... i'm still trying to lobby chiif to get a good price for the 35nokton1.2...

outputs feels the same.
tried metering in daylight, metering for both is the same.
but just curious why the 2 stops different at night.

btw, tried this on the ZI.

Maybe it's the camera that's erratic, not the lens?

If both picture look similar, is that mean the 35/1.4 is actually a 35mm F4..... ? or the Nokton 35/1.2 is 35mm F0.7 ??

Don't rely on the metering I guess, better take a picture at the same speed and aperture and check if the images are different...........

I have both lenses and don't see any metering difference between the 1.2 and 1.4 or difference in the final output as far as brightness goes. Am using both lenses on a Leica MP. Not sure why you would have the difference in exposure, but perhaps you can check that you are under constant lighting when testing out the lens, some forms of lighting such as florescent lights tend to pulse in brightness.

how about filter on the lens? do both lenses have the same filters on them or have none?

dunno leh. am just curious why in nite time the metering difference based on AE.
maybe is just my copy of lens or cam. dunno also.
in my short 5 yrs of rangefinding, stranger things have i come across.

The AE on my Zi have been very accurate and foolproof..
But I only have the 35f1.4 and not the 35f1.2 so cant really comment
