I'm a v600 user, when i scan a BW negative with dark area and the image appear very noisy. Just wonder if there is any way to solve it or dont mind share your workflow.

can you show us some examples.

Maybe u can remove the noise in lightroom if you have? This is wat i usually do. Hope it helps.

I have this issue too with my V600, but I believe it is an issue of exposure & developing methods.

ok i will try different film with fine grain to see if it is noise or film grain.

Looks more like grain than "noise" to me. Could be underexposed? Or expired film?

This is the result of leaving the scanner on "auto" -- it tries too hard to "see" into the dark region and comes up with this. You can fix this with a combination of contrast curves and noise removal. I usually use Lightroom for this sort of stuff.

I think if you are shooting film, be at peace with some levels noise and grain.

If you hate to have any noise at all in a scene like this, better get a D700.

Personally, I think this shot is not a fair comparison.
Its a 400 film, shot with flash, and in the underexposed areas (which is huge, and very, very 'under') due to the nature of the surrounds, I'd say the film and scanner did exceptionally well! There is only so much the film can 'catch' in the underexposed areas. So I think in this case the noise is accounted for.

Benji is right. Exposure is challenging to catch for the scanner in this situation. I don't think any of the 400 films I've shot and scanned(either myself or lab) would be considered super clean by most standards actually.

I also realized that using grain reduction in PS is also not ideal as it lead to artifacts as per what you see in the photo.

One way is to used dedicated noise reduction software like NoiseNinja. Or even better, embrace the grains!
