Nikon EN-EL3e - Price Differences?

I'm looking for a original Nikon EN-EL3e battery and when I saw the quote in the price guide stating that it costs $49 at SLR Revo, I called them up and got the same quote.

I also called a few other shops and they quoted me as such:

MSC - $65
OP - $65
CP - $75

Any idea why SLR-R is so cheap?

I had wondered about that too.:dunno:

I bought the 2nd one from MS last Jan @$65. After hearing on CS last month about the price at SLR, i bought 2 more @$49 each. As with the earlier one, all are made in Japan, i cant see any difference.

SLR-R $49 bought in Jul 2010.

I also bought at $49. Can anyone confirm, is it true that Nikon accessories ie batts do not have warranty. I got third party ones from Phottix with warranty. When I asked SLR, they said accessories got no warranty.

Maybe thats the difference between $65 and $49?

Forgot to add that even AP Funan quoted me $58, which is still cheaper than what the other shops quoted by TS.

Im curious to know, are there "grey" batts?

I just called up NSC to get to the bottom of this. Apparently, according to the technician that answered by queries.

1) There is no official warranty for Nikon batteries. However, NSC will still give "coverage" for the battery issues within 1 year from the date of purchase. Original receipts must be produced to substantiate claims for service.

2) The only way to tell whether the Nikon battery is a grey set is by the serial numbers. He however did mention that even for grey batteries(not from authorised dealers, i assume SLR belongs in this category), as long as a official receipt is produced, they would review the warranty coverage for the battery on a case by case basis.

HTH.

Cheers:)

Thanks, that was very helpful. Didn't expect anyone to go to the trouble of calling up for answers, when it doesnt even concern you. THanks  I will be more diligent in future.

Notice that one is worded as Nikon and the other as SONY E-D.

Fakes? :think::sweat:

Hmmm....it's always a big issue when some shops sell too cheap....anyway RCP is $97 for this battery;p

ehhh....wahhh..didnt know SLR-R sell battery so cheap...diaoo..the one tat i bought from OP just a week ago also sony-ed, so i guess its the same.

Okay checked the EN-EL3e that came with my D700 - it's SONY E-D too...

Looks like $49 is really a good deal

checked my 2 en-el3e....the one that came with my D700 is sony e-d while the one bought from AP Funan don't have both....hmmm, grey set?

i really don't think SLR batts are fake....i have checked the thread on fake batts before I went down to get them. Despite small changes, the batts seem genuine, like the font and stickers. I had no intention to suggest that one shop or another is selling fake batts, rather whether the batts are local or grey. I think a lot of us are just jumpiing the gun and getting worried that its cheap therefore its fake. Like I said earlier, SLR is not the only shop selling cheap. AP is also relatively cheap compared to the other shops.
