Nikon DSLR Skintone s Color ?

I find that nikon dslrs tend to give abit more reds out of camera, i usually try to load a curve that tones down the red midtones very slightly, find that it gives nicer colours overall. Personal preference of cos. ;)

quite true also. actually quite confusing sometimes. cos my d70 sometimes has a red cast, sometimes having a yellow cast instead. of cse, it could be due to other factors like white balance etc.

may i know which curve do u load into ur cam? i now using the so called S5Pro curve.

Ok here u go,spot the difference:bsmilie:
both picture at (WB) daylight no ps just done to this 2 shots also,
just a frenly compare, to me both are good cam but personally i top S2pro for skin tone:thumbsup:

Please do a test with the same lens... different lens, not fair for comparision...

Hmm...:think:could be,maybe not so fair to compare like that.
no time to change lens on that day, never mind my D300 is on the way
next time use a same lens to compare with my S5pro, but to bad S2 no longer
with me.

ur comparison shld be made with the same lens.
also diff makes(brands) have diff settings for their pre-set WB.
use the "manual" K mode of WB, and see?

I already did extensive testing with my S5 Pro against D300. In general, don't expect the out-of-camera images to look as good as those from S5 Pro. D300 needs proper settings to achieve colors as good as those from S5 Pro. Dynamic range wise, Fuji wins without doubt.

I add the curve in postprocessing, came up with the curve myself by lowering the red midtones slightly and sometimes boosting the blue midtones slightly.

Are you able to change the colour output by loading custom curves to your cam? Cos i always tot the custom curve only allows you to adjust the RGB curve, thus all 3 colours are affected by the same proportion. As a result, only the contrast is affected rather than the colour output. Correct me if i'm wrong tho, cos i would like to upload a custom curve to my cam if i'm able to change the curve by individual colour channels. :)

Nikon cameras tends to have a yellow cast..i prefer the color for D200 better than the D300..But i still like the colors from my s5pro best.:)

I have been using Nikon DSLR since year 2004, but I'm newbie to photography ,
I notice that every Nikon DSLR has different color characteristic,
d70/d70s - green color cast
d80 - red color cast
d2h - yellow/warm color cast .

I love to shoot portraiture, but I have hard time to calibrate the skin tone color,
maybe I need to calibrate my eye .. :bsmilie:
I love my Nikon, but I do have hard time with nikon color,
my question is, what nikon's dslr will gives you pleasant and beautiful skintones ?
or any settting applied ?
thanks in advance

First, if you want consistent colour, use a fixed WB setting like Cloudy. This way, you eliminate the camera's AWB characteristic. You only need to ensure the colour of the lighting.

So far I don't have any problems with skintone when I use Cloudy except with Sigma lenses which behaves a bit differently compared to the light transmission characteristics of Nikkor lenses. Even with Nikkors, some of my lenses uses L1Bc (Skylight), some L37c (UV) and some NC (no correction) and I find their colours ok.

If you want nice skintones, you can try D2X, D300 or D3 with D2X Mode I picture control, or the Fujifilm DSLRs.

To be honest, I don't like both. The D200 is a bit too warm and the S2Pro is a bit too magenta/blue. Skintones are more acceptable if they look warmer. Ideally, the colour should be somewhere in between the two. Either camera, you'd still have to tweak. ;p Generally, I agree that the D200 output is a bit on the warm side.
