half way thru my city run, it rained. so i decided to find some shelter and at the same time passed by nikon council for a quick hands-on on the critically acclaimed d70+AFS18-70mm...
some main points:
1. metering is good. but still must compensate slightly in the minus direction to avoid overblown highlights
2.the shutter sounds and feels quite ok. ie it appreciably "solid enough"
3. during chimping, the enabling of "rotate tall" option feels quite ok...but the viewable image gets smaller ...not really that critical a feature i suppose
4. navigating thru the menu feels like wandering thru a maze. and alot of "important" options (eg AF-c vs AF-s) are hidden quite deep within the layers of the menu
5.overall, the layout is "still not clean enough" as compared to kwanon..
6.AF with the 18-70 lens is quite good, considering that it was night time outside and low light inside spinellis. only once a while did it hunt.
7. overall..not bad a package for dslr newbies. but must spend time to get used to the handling, and the features, and how to naviagte smoothly thru the menu.
yes, the dark side of the force was strong while during NC. in fact, it was strongest when i came face2face with none other than the much feared Sith Lord, Darth **** himself  if the d70 had been launched way back in yr 2000, i would have yielded and dreamily bought it back then...keke! but anyway, after such a close encounter with the dark side, my verdict is : i will rate 3 out of 5 stars for the d70+18-70 combo
