Nikon AF 80-200 f/2.8D problem

i just tested my 80-200 and i realised i onli needed a +1 on the AF fine tune. i guess i wasn't focusing on her eyes properly then.

OK so I'm finally in a position where I am happy with this lens. For anyone with a back focus issue or who second guesses the value of this lens take it back and get another. Having been there done that with this lens I encourage all to keep hunting till you can get a good sample. If you have a copy with focus issues you will not get a clear image from this lens. I think the post of the girl in orange is a good example of that. I think her right shoulder is sharper than her right eye!! Pixel peep or not even a small image looks crap with this lens, if the lens itself has a focus issue

Lens correction only works if the lens exhibits a consistant fault right through the focal range and at all f stops (happy to be corrected). If not then you introduce front focus at the wide end of the range. Does lens correction allow nikon to release more defects in the future, I hope not!!!

If nikon wants users to pay between 1 1.5K for a lens then it better perform as specified.

seems to have a lot of people selling this lens on B&S, hope it is not because of this thread:o Anyone can share their experience on this lens on FF camera? I've tried it on a D3 very briefly, works better in my opinion but can't be too sure as didn't really test it thoroughly. actually I've tried my old 35-70mm f2.8, also got a bit back focus... really eager to get my hands on a FF body to try out the difference...

I focused on the right eye 200mm F2.8 so the dop is so thin. maybe it isn't the sharpest photo but i believe its sharp enough at 100%.

backfocussed a little. you can tell from the t-shirt.

same as mine i guess, the third from the left is in focus but is diffused. things in focus when taken >5m at f2.8 to around f5.6 will back focus and if in focus produce diffused image. I've tried on D3 and D700 today with this lens... almost same result, seems slightly better on both D3 and D700 compared with my D200, but maybe is because resolution is better on the FFs.
