Still waiting for more reviews on this lens as compared to the f2.8 version.

May I ask, is this price includes GST?
If it's already included, then I'll be tempting to get 1. It's almost half of f2.8!
Thks.

Is the 70-200mm lens out yet? Can't wait to try it.

Its SOO light! I'll say kit lens weight..
Fit on D700 feel very unbalanced..lol

I was a NSC today and they had it on display, so I gave it a try with the D800. Long story short, I'm very impressed. Wide open with VR on, I was getting sharp shots at 1/80 (or was it 1/60?). There was very little CA, and the light weight was a welcome relief after using the 80-200 f2.8. AF is not as snappy as the 80-200 though, and it lacks the ego-boosting presence of the bigger brother. I only had a short time with it, but I'm left with a good strong impression of it.

This is utterly annoying as the reason I was at NSC was to repair the AF motor of my AF-S 80-200. After the repair bill, it would not make economic sense for me to downgrade to the 70-200 f4, even though I like the light weight and VR.

For those looking for a telephoto zoom, the new 70-200 f4 is a serious contender and should definitely be tried out.

:( sorry to hear your AFS 80-200 motor failed.

but while we're talking about 80-200, i think perhaps there will be a few folk who'll change over. especially the ones who didn't want to take the huge (financial) step to a new 70-200/2.8. perhaps. only time (and the BnS section) will tell.

Sure ? you are comparing F2.8 with F4? Can but not proper.

can compare la. the AF speed, the VR, the performance at various aperture, the image quality, the price (whether it is more worth it to get the f4 over the f2.8) etc. etc.

its arnd/abt the same focal length anyway. not comparing a wide lens to a tele lens.

Price is about the same as the 24120 F4 VR.............................:)

I had the opportunity to test this lens today at NSC. It's a familiar place so all will know how the ambient is like. I tested the 70-200 f4 against my 70-300 VR.

A

B

A and B both at same setting of ISO 1600 f5.6 1/60 @200mm. Focusing speed for both was quite slow because of this spot which I picked. It feels about the same to me.

C

D

Both at 200mm f5.6 but I messed up the shutter, C is @ 1/60, D @ 1/30

F4 lens bokeh ball wide open

Not mentioning which pic from which lens, I think my assessment is that it is not really justifiable for me to replace my current 70-300 VR with this lens, as it cost $1200 more. Sharpness is really close too. I personally do not think it is worth that much more than the 70-300 VR. Plus point for this lens is the excellent VR and lightweight, which I wouldn't have any qualms bringing it out any day.

mayb it's jus me....but i feel the colour rendering and sharpness is better in pic A & C

i was told no ready stock yet...been lookin for it

but in the malaysia forum, it's said the lens cost only rm3900(abt sgd1560!!!) and is already available,
