Newbie need help with Sony/Canon decision

That is only one mode out of the many....what about continous AF and etc so a sweeping statment like that should not be made.

1, As stated, it's a STATIC STUDIO comparison. So it's well lit, the subjects are not moving. Ergo, AF tracking and locking on to targets in dim light is not covered.

2.Continuous AF was NOT accurately tested on your links based on the text they themselves put in:

"This mode usually shows no speed increase with our static subject; we have no way to measure performance with moving subjects."

What we are talking about are real-life examples. Like when in a dimly-lit-studio (dark theme), owners of certain camera brands had to use a flashlight on the subject so that their cameras could lock focus, while others didn't need that at all.

Hmmmm I will tend to disagree here.

FYI, in your PM to me, you said that "as a senior member you should know better". Exactly, I do. That's why I'm saying that the Canon AF was markedly improved in the 60D and 7D, but not in the older models. FYI, I've used Canon and Nikon as well.

You also said I'm very Sony-biased; did I put "Sony" in my nick, thus locking me in to a single brand? Nope. When the day comes that the Sony system cannot deliver the tools that I need to get my shots, I'll get another system. I'm not a fanboi of a single brand, so I just speak from experience.

dun compare the entry level camera so hard as if our dear live depend on it. must said sony entry level camera is still entry level, it isn't in the same league with it older and higher level siblings like the a700,a900 and a850 in term of af power.
Canon system by default had a faster af than sony and nikon, but oddly nikon had the best accuracy under any type of situation....but be surprise in situation where canon and nikon would faltered, Sony dslr can still perform .....
if anyone ask if i am a fanboy...yes i am i had borrow at one time and shoot extensively with 1series,D700,a900,a850... would have love to own them all but alas i just a hobbyist...can't afford to own them all:cry:

in additional to the abv, liveview sony is still the fastest even it is not the most accurate
