new to videography n confused...

hi there..

i got this question while editing this clip.
1)

2)

clip 1 was taken by d3s.recorded in HD.Format is AVI
clip 2 was edited by Windows Live Movie Maker.Format is WMV
both Screen Shots r taken @ Full Screen Mode.

Details of the 2 clips.

my question is...y is it that even @ higher res,clip 2 is unable to "fill up the screen" like the way clip 1 does?or am i missing something here?btw,clip 1 is a 516MB file while clip 2 is a 176MB

1) Original video from your Nikon D3s' which is 1280x720(HD 24fps).
2) I believe that when you edit your video in Movie Maker, your composition was set to 1920x1080, so when you put your 1280x720 you can see a black space around it.

I suggest to Keep your composition into 1280x720.

still having the same prob even when edited to 1280x720

You are referring to the black space right? That is because your monitor resolution is larger than the video file resolution.

my monitor res is 1920x1200
clip 1 is 1280x720
clip 2 is 1920x1080

if that's the case,clip 2 should have less "black boarder" than clip 1,right?

Wat Mixmotion meant is to keep your MovieMaker project size 1280X720, and also output to 1280X720. That means you edit in 1280X720 and render to 1280X720.

So that when you edit, your footage is not smaller than your canvas (in Photoshop terms). And you do not see a black border in your preview window in MovieMaker.

Post 3 seems to be talking about the final render settings. What are your project settings before you render? The project should have a resolution of 1280x720. And why are you changing the frame rate from 24 to 29 fps? Just set the project to 24 fps, same as the footage, to preserve as much quality as possible.

Once your project settings match the original footage, you can render to any output format you like, including 1280x720. As long as the aspect ratio is 16:9 there should be no black borders round the video. Again, don't change the frame rate unless you have a particular reason to do so. It will just introduce motion artifacts such as blurring and jerkiness.

it seems that aspect ratio is the prob.
btw,how did u know i was using 29 fps?does vid clips has exif info the same way as a photo has?if yes,how do i view this info?

Ha ha, you showed the clip properties in your first post!

Project settings is what you need to adjust in moviemaker. I am not familiar with this software so cannot really help you with that. Maybe you can look for Project Properties or something like that?

anyway,i'm now trying out Pinnacle Studio.moviemaker is not that flexible.
