Hi.
I'm going to get a new PC and intend to use mainly for editing and watching videos plus just little bit of gaming.

Is the CPU or the Graphics card more crucial in a video editing PC?

Also getting a cheap MiniDV camcorder to shoot footages from my hobby, rc helicopter/plane flying. Mostly gonna just post on youtube full screen.

Hope can get some advice. Thanks.

Also I noticed on overseas video editing forums that most people are using Nvidia graphics cards. Wonder if there is anything wrong with Ati cards when it comes to video editing.

If you are just editing with miniDV, with some simple graphics/supers.. any computer will be fine. Most systems nowadays can handle a few DV streams in realtime.. only issue will be the OS overhead.. ram and HDD storage will be important..

Also, get the latest graphics card for whatever gaming you will do.. I don't play video games so I can't recommend what's good.

CPU is much more important for video editing. Some editors do use the GPU for certain effects and transitions, but in general the graphics card doesn't matter much for video. In fact if you get a high end one with lots of RAM, and you are using a 32-bit OS, it can even make things worse by grabbing memory allocation away from the application software.

But if you are into gaming you will need good graphics performance as well, so looks like you will have to spend $$$ and get both! :)

(And go for 64-bit OS if you can).

the new editions of premiere, After effects, photoshop do have graphic card accelleration.
