New GoPro Hero3+ should you even care?

I haven't even fully ultilise my 3 yet and a new one is out. Haha

I think it's evil for Gopro to change form factor with every iteration and terribly wasteful to get so many casings just to accommodate add-ons like cables and LCD backs. It's almost a given that you have to buy a different case every time you want to add an accessory.

Agree. And they learnt it from apple!

Worst thing is there are rumors flying around that there is already a prototype (being tested) for the next GOPRO 4 ....

LoL

Just like NikonRumour, now there is GoproRumour? Haha

The Gopro 3 uses the Ambarella A7 chip, the 3+ uses the Ambarella A7L which only offers improvement in wifi and battery consumption.

The latest Ambarella A9 chip was announced very early this year so you can expect Gopro to be doing testing on it now for their next Gopro 4.

That should be able to capture 4k at 30fps. I think the only problem is battery life, heat and micro sd card speed that is constant and fast enough to record it and fitting everything in to a Hero 3 size and form factor.

But seeing how a Samsung Note 3 can already record 4k at 30fps, Gopro is playing a catch up game now.

I find it funny that Samsung Note 3 has 4K earlier than a Video camera like Gopro ...

And find it even more amusing and on the brink of sadness that full fletch pro-sumer cameras ain't even there yet ... Maybe except for Sony AX1 Camcorder which is at SGD$6-7k.

Understandable. Samsung is a powerful chaebol. Gopro is an SME.

I am with JacePhoto...Yet to really put in the mileage for my GoPro3...I am not bothered.....yet.....

It's easy for giant to kill small players. They have all the technology and resources, what they need to do is to steal some ideas, modify and put in more juice to use it for own market. Thought i saw sony with similar setup as the gopro display booth in the retail stores. They have similar range of products, felt quite disgusted although it supposed to be a competition.

GoPro valued at US$2.5 billion. Foxconn is a shareholder. At this point in time, no need to raise capital from the stock market. Doubt it is an SME.

Yeah ... GoPro is much much larger than Samsung in the 'video' & 'camera' department.

Not sure about 3+, a bit disappointed really, where is my image stabilizing feature?
