New EOS60D sports vari-angle LCD!

still manual focusing for video though from what i see. no idea if audio is stereo or mono.

in all honesty...people will choose either a 550D or a 7D over the 60D unless the warranty specially covers the vari-angle lcd.

I would wait for an AF movie model to make transition from camcorder to video slr more simpler.

I don't take videos, so this is a downgrade from the 50D for me. Lower fps and no joystick for AF point selection
It's kind of hard to imagine AF movie SLR, because contrast focus is never really that good , and you're wasting the phase AF sensors in the camera. The only possibility I see is a pellicle mirror camera, like Sony's A33 and A55. Oh wait I think they already have that function in their movie mode? Not sure
But I just feel really sad about the 60D, really. It's like Canon is forcing me to buy 7D

Yep ! Both the Sony a55 and a33 models have high speed shooting and auto focusing for their movies. Impressive cameras.

My concern is the new translucent mirror technology may give rise to other limitations.

Thanks for the analysis! I don't know for sure if the 60D uses translucent mirrors. But the ghosting issue with translucent mirror is a cause for concern. I can imagine lens/mirror flaring will be present too in such systems. As for AF, at this point in time, none of the AF systems on any DSLR including the Lumix range really can cut it for professional use. So to videographers, I think for now it is still a useless feature. Some good points over the A55 is 60D's 1080p video vs A55's 1080i which is Sony's way of protecting their pro-range camcorders. I like way the LCD folds out like the Lumix range. Flipping downwards on a Sony A55 may be a problem when mounted to a tripod.

Audio control is quite an improvement but it remains to be seen if that means AGC is totally disabled. This, I realise, are two different issues. Looking forward to some actual reviews here from early adopters.

one good thing that came out..choice of AVCHD or Mpeg.
