New Canon EOS 7D does 24P,25P,30P

Every month, we are getting closer and closer to Canon's "RED Killer".
The latest milestone is the new EOS 7D released this month. It's only APS-C so is cheaper
than the 5D MarkII. Has mic-jack, no AF in video mode. But offers more framerate and frame size options than any video DSLR to-date. Check out this review

now which genius thought of the above. If they want to impress, give a choice of either DV, mts, m2ts and etc.

Noone in Macland is complaining though FCP actually has a H264 preset that lets you playback the clips on the timeline without rendering.

Most professional videos are edited on Apple's Final Cut Pro (Pretty darned hard to use thou). So i think .MOV is a good move on Canon's part. Though what would be better is that Canon allows the 7D to record in multiple format.

I do not see much to complain about. Video enabled SLRs are in their budding stages. With the 7D we get a sensor the size of a Super 35mm film. Slightly smaller but not by much. Meaning with some modifications, we might be able to mount PL lenses like Arri/Zeiss's wonderful Master Primes and use the 7D like a real cinema camera. Ok that requires major modifications. Like removing the mirror box and etc.

One thing that DSLRs do excel in is ISO noise control. With the 7D we might be able to take videos at ISO 3200 or even ISO 6400. What this means is that if your shooting a budget film, you would be able to get less powerful lights and smaller aperture lenses which allows you to allocate the budget to more important areas like props and actor/actresses.

This small little 7D would give the cinema camera industry a punch in the face. Sure you can get the Red One but thats 17.5k USD body alone(which is relatively cheap compared to the recently announced Arri digital cinema camera at 73k USD). With 17k SGD you'd be able to get the 7D, a few L primes and tonnes of lights. Imagine the possibilities!

I cant wait for the 7D to be released.

anyone who is nuts about compression level of video affecting final output so want a choice of the format to use.

FCP is good but as many users as there are, also have plenty of people want to use Avid, After Effects and etc so would be best if can choose the container as well.

Yes, we might not really know the compression level, but this is probably a around 2.5k body. In the video camera industry, that will get you a pretty neat consumer HD camcorder which you would not be able to chose the format and etc.

That is a suggestion that i think canon should take note of to increase their video customer base of the 7d.

could learn from panasonic....the tz7 gives option of h.264 mov or avchd.

i do believe the camera/video hybrid superstar will come from the four thirds group.
