Hi pple,
I just bought a D40 from a photoshop listed in the price list yesterday and took about 40 pictures.
I just checked the shutter count and it shows 1352.
Is it because of some QC testing that the sutter count is so high?

If not, will it make a diff to request for an exchange?

It should be OK even it has 1352 count.
don't worry. You won't use it anymore before the shutter is corrupted.
BTW, how much did you buy it?

U can sent it back to shop and ask the shop to send NSC for reset if tat make U happy a bit
BUt must do it fast hor :)

Do you test the camera on the spot?

If the shop can let you try it without buying, then most likely is it has been try out by other interested users who is looking @ the D40. :)

1300 sounds very high to me. No harm trying to swap with the shop for one with a lower count?

Hi people.
I thought about it and decided not to change. Have to go down to the shop again etc. 1000 plus seems alot but the condition is totally new. WIth the one year warranty, i guess its ok.

Thanks for the advice.

How do you check the shutter count when you are first testing the camera?

maybe its a demo unit..

Where did you buy this camera from? $1000 plus seems like u are over charged. And did you come to the page where you select the times zones (not sure if this is a feature on the D40, but it is there for D80 when first turned on.) and set the date yourself? Anything wrong with the receipt? 1000plus shutter counts seems like a demo unit, if not a pre-owned and returned set.

1000+ shutter i mean. Got it for $850.
Maybe it was a demo unit ba. The time etc was already set when the shop owner took it out.
The problem with the Nikon box is that it's not sealed.

try first with a new or formatted mem card. for more info do a search on related threads.
