just use ur fingers to pry it open in the dark bag/darkroom.

done liao thanks. cowz ... the tip of the neg was torn.

a trick i picked up from another photog many moons ago.

take a piece of stiff cardboard dat is thin enuf to slide thru the film canister opening. cut a strip abt the same width as the opening. stick a short piece of double-sided tape on one side of the cardboard strip. once done, insert the cardboard strip end with the tape facing downwards into the opening. gently push it into the canister. once in, turn the film canister spindle so dat the cardboard with the tape will stick onto the film. once u feel the pull on ur cardboard strip, gently pull out the cardboard strip. if the tape managed to catch onto the film, the leading edge of the film will be extracted out of the canister together with the cardboard strip.

hope this helps?

I have never used a film picker, having processed hundreds of rolls of 35 mm films.

I use something called a can opener from my kitchen. Just open one end of the canister with the can opener, and "flop" the roll of film out and then load it onto the reel. Of course all this in the balck bag!

NEVER any problem. Never a scratch!

I think this is so much simpler, isn't it?

i set my Xpan to leave the lead out after finishing.

hehe..

for me
I alway rewind till the leader is left out from the canister :)
no need flim picker

If you are not using Kodak film, you can actually hold the cassette with the protruding spindle downwards and then pound it on the table. The other side should pop out. All this in a dark bag of course. If you are using Kodak film, sorry this wont work. Use a can opener or a film picker.

PN, when can I return you your books?
