need to rent lighting equipment for video shoot

Hi guys,

Im looking to rent some lighting equipment for my short film shoot. This is my first time shooting a short film, so would appreciate some help. Is it really vital to set up the 3 pt lighting system? And if anyone could state their rates to me it would be appreciated. Am shooting on a low budget though. Thanks. PM me.

All lighting setups are meant to make your subject more dimensional (by creating the right shadows) and make them standout within your frame (by directing suffiicient light on them. No need to keep to 3 pt lighting all the time. If you have a really dark sinister scene, a single keylight maybe the best design.

One pt I often noticed in movies is that no matter where the source of keylight is setup, it is almost always accountable in the scene setup (e.g. light from outside the window, light from a table lamp). This will involve very detailed planning and blocking.

IMHO, you should at least have 1 keylight, and 1 fill-light (both to come with large softboxes if your budget allows).
