Need recommendation for Piano ~~

Hi,

I want to start learning Piano and need advice on equipment and how to learn.

My budget is around S$800 and below. Looking at these two big brands; Casio and Yamaha. I saw people commenting that Yamaha is good at sound quality and Casio is more for keys. Is it still true in newer models of Casio? As I'm very sensitive to sound quality, I feel like Yamaha may be best for me. But,anyway, I still like to hear suggestions from all of u.

I noticed two series that may be within my budget in these 2 brands; Privia series for Casio and P series for Yamaha. My questions are as follows;

1) Which model is worth considering in each brand?

2) Estimated price for brandnew (that u like to recommend) and where to buy to get a good deal?

3) How can I do self-learning? For e.g, any good book or online resources that can be recommended for beginner?

4) Last but not least, I also want to consider 2nd hand piano. Saw one selling Yamaha Clavinova at S$700. Is it good deal? Where is the best place to find 2nd hand piano?

I don't know much about the Casios.... but the Yamaha P series? oh man I really love the action of the keys. properly weighted keys with (what I suspect) is proper hammer action as well. therefore it really feels like a real piano key, akin to how one would feel when playing on an upright/grand.

I'm a stickler for feel and set up, hence my vote would go for the P series. I think I tried it on a P700 or a 900? not too sure about the model numbers. but from what I remember, they don't come cheap in Singapore though.

in that forum, i saw many recommending on Casio Privia. Cheap and good. I saw Casio Privia at $600+ in Carrefour. Seems like good buy...

I'm not too sure about the Casio Privia since I haven't tried it out.

I tried the Yamaha P-series out and frankly speaking, I was initially not expecting much out of it but it surprised me. The weighted keys, whilst not 120% 'there' yet, still has at least 80% feel of an actual piano.

Still the Privia's price looks like its going to give my money a good run for it. Also considering getting a piano though.

bro, let me know where will u be getting...... I found 2nd hand Yamaha P70 people selling at 550$. not sure that model is ok or not.

Have you managed to test both the Casio and Yamaha pianos? I haven't tried the Privia series myself, should audition one day...

On HWZ people recommend going to Luthermusic to get the P85 new.

Yamaha hands down.. tried both.. Casio still no match to Yamaha when comes to sound quality and key weighted feel.. try it.. u will know..

oh yes. thumbs up to Luthermusic. good chaps who run the place, and tremendously friendly and no attitude service, as quoted from their website.

do check out their Yamaha stocks there, as they are able to give you a good pricing. I know they offer damn good pricings on their Compass series guitars compared to Yamaha at Plaza Singapura.
