Need Help With My M9

Hi,

I am new to my M9, and recently discovered in my photos this mark in all of my pictures at the same place. I tried using a blower to clean my sensor and also the back of my lens but nothing seems to help. Have anyone seen this before? Anyone know what could this be?

check the sensor? try bulb mode and take a look at sensor could be spec of dust..
my RD1 use to have this issue too...

Probably just a long piece of dust that's a bit more stubborn. Quite often the blower isn't strong enough to remove all pieces of dust and in some cases it actually introduces more dust!

Consider bringing it back to Leica for a proper cleaning or if you want to you can consider doing it yourself. There are many threads online regarding this, some people say never to use a blower, some say don't use wet swabs, etc etc...

I personally used a blower and then an arctic butterfly followed by a powerful torchlight to check to see if there's anything left. Same method I've used on all my other cameras.

But you need to be sure it's not a droplet of oil or grease, if not the artic butterfly will smear it all over your sensor.

I don't fully recommend using bulb mode, that means that the camera is taking a picture. The M9 has a sensor cleaning mode, use that instead, I think it's a little safer.

Thank you so much everyone, i just inspected my sensor again, yeah and i used the sensor cleaning mode, think there is a very persistent speck of dust after all. Used a more powerful blower and got rid of it. Just wondering, wouldn't the dust still be inside my camera even after blowing it off.

If sensor scratched, very jialat right?

I wouldn't touch the sensor at all, at most just use a blower, unless you know what you are doing.

If you need cleaning you can always send back to Leica.

I usually send my 5D back to CSC for sensor cleaning, $20.

Thanks Bro, for the suggestions, i will go google up on the arctic butterfly. By the way, do you know roughly how much Leica service centre charges for a proper cleaning? Do they do locally or back at Solms? Any difference, whether the camera is under warranty or not? If its not proper to ask here, do leave me a PM. Very much appreciated.

Haha, yeah me paranoid whenever i see sensor, like some people see blood like that... But scared they send back Germany, take long time for camera to come back...

Usually people suggest you flip the camera upside down (opening facing down) then use the blower. Supposedly gravity will help bring the dust particle out... shrug... but yes, there are times you just move the dust from one point to another.

As for the sensor getting scratched, if you have never touched it before it's very unlikely to be scratched. There have been horror stories of sand particles on the sensor and people used a swab to get rid of it resulting in scratches, which is why I don't use swabs.. haha...

Anyway, if some foreign object were somehow make its way into your camera, most likely the shutter blades will be damaged first.
